She sat down after being hit by the bus load of a fight between them. Between her and the only man she truly ever loved.
"I want this to work out, I don't want us to break apart. I especially don't want you to move away. I want you here. I need you here. We can make this work. I know we can." She pleaded.
He sat there contemplating what she had just said and done. She had poured her heart out to him and all he could do was sit and stare. But god she was beautiful when she is desperate, he thought. Yet it wasn't enough. He couldn't do it. He couldn't sit on the sidelines being the perfect boyfriend while she was out drinking with an old "friend". If you could call him that. Chris was the one who got her pregnant when she was younger, so of course he was he lover for sometime, but he didn't really love her. At least not the way Luke did. That's why it was so hard to watch Lorelai with other people when they weren't dating yet. But now they were and she was lying to him. She didn't tell him about her night out when it happened, it took seeing Chris at her parents' vow-renewal to make her fess yp about it.She said she didn't want him to read too much into it. But as soon as she told him, that's exactly what he did. He started to panick. How could he trust her again? If so, how long would it take him? The answer, a very long time. He wished it wouldn't though.
While he was thinking and processing all of this, he didn't realize that she had gotten up and left. so when he looked up, he got a surprise. He was sad because he loved her so much and for a long time, but he couldn't be in a relationship where he couldn't trust the other person. Even if that person was Lorelai.
As she walked home, she had these sudden urges to turn around and run back to him. She wanted to tell him how sorry she was and tell him how much she loved him. But she fought those urges with all the strength she had left, which wasn't a whole lot. Maybe there was still some hope that they ahd another chance.
He was lost in thought with his back turned away from the door when his worst nightmare walked in. Kirk was still sitting at the counter, asking undefineable noises. Emily walked in and closed the door behind her.
"Hello Luke," she said. "When you get a chance, I'd like to talk to you."
"I'm busy," was all he could manage.
After she told that Lorelai had chosen him and left, he drove to her house and knocked on the door. Ever since she became a "couch potato spinster", he only ever saw her walking or driving to Weston's. He knew that place was not her "scene", but he knew that she needed the coffee. Just like he needed every part of her. When she opened the door, he could see the dark bags under her eyes and he knew that he looked exactly the same. All he could do was give into his urges to kiss her. And that is precisely what he did.
