Title: Protection
Summary: "Stay back, Kikyou-sama!" Sango, as she watches Kikyou and Kohaku defend each other and ponders on protecting Kohaku.
Spoilers: Manga Chapters 405 and 406.
Pairings: Sango/Kohaku and Kohaku/Kikyou.
"Stay back, Kikyou-sama!"
You're shielding her, shielding an undead body of clay. From the Kongousouha's diamond spears.
This battle does not concern you. Nor I. Nor Miroku.
All that matters to the hanyou is Mouryoumaru. And Sesshomaru. And Kagome.
They do not concern you. Not Inuyasha. Not Kagome. Not even Miroku. Only I.
The taiyoukai's Toukijin will not cut through Mouryoumaru's armour. And I make the mistake of looking away only once.
'Kohaku and Kikyou...!' Gone.
'Where are they...!'
'They're gone...'
They. Two people. Both.
I have no care for two people... only one.
You. Kohaku. You.
'Where are you...!'
'You're gone...'
Again. You're gone again... with Kikyou now. She isn't Kagura, but... she can protect you, can't she?
She can protect you, care for you... shield you from harm's danger.
Shield you... like you shielded her.
"Stay back, Kikyou-sama!"
Kagome worries about Shikon Shards... Inuyasha worries about armoury...
And I'm worried about you, Kohaku. You. Who I couldn't protect.
"Run, Kohaku!"
... Even a spawn of Naraku could protect you. Kagura protected you. Summoned a feather to give you wings to run.
And died a miserable death for it.
And I? I fear no death, though I do not welcome it with open arms.
A dead lady can protect you. And a woman died to protect you.
Must I die to protect you, Kohaku?
Haven't I died enough just thinking of you?
You're killing me Kohaku. You're killing me. Naraku is making you kill me. Is that what he wanted?
I'm dying, Kohaku, dying because I couldn't protect you.
I can't even protect myself from you...
I can't even protect you from myself...
How can I protect you?
I... may not like Kikyou for taking you away from me. But...
Stay with her...
She will protect you, Kohaku.
She can protect you...
Stay with her, she'll protect you...
Because I can't.
... I'm sorry, Kohaku.
First one-shot and first drabble. It wasn't TOO bad was it?
