As The Rain Falls

By Chase304

Chase sat on his bed, rubbing his forehead in thought. As the rain fell, he questioned what had happened. Zoey and Chase had been out on the beach earlier that day with everyone else. A wonderful time, full of excitement, and almost something else…

"Come on guys, it's getting late!" Logan called. They all headed up to where he was and grabbed their towels to dry off. As they sat in the sun waiting so they could change, they discussed the day.

"Man, this place is so awesome," Chase said.

"Yeah, we got to build sand castles and ride the waves," Dana replied.

"This place is so cool," Nichole said. And it was true. Everything about going to the beach was awesome to them, even the food. But now they sadly looked out on the waves, knowing this was their last time to see them until the next year. They looked for the last time with reluctance as they piled on the bus.

The bus ride was silent, everybody wondering what they were going to do during the summer. Chase glanced over at Zoey. He wouldn't see her for two months. He wanted to tell her his feelings so badly, but he was shy on the subject and usually changed his words around when attempting to tell her his unconditional feelings…

A week had passed since the trip to the beach, and now there were only two days left, or as Chase thought of it, two days to tell her. He looked out the window at the pouring rain, and questioned himself if he could do it. He sighed. Better now than never. He rose to his feet and headed toward the door.

Just as he began to open it, Michael burst in. He looked over at Chase, who had an odd expression on his face.

"Hey Chase. Say, do you know what's up with Zoey?" Michael asked him.

"No," Chase said. Why, where is she?"

"She's outside by her dorm, and she's crying." Michael looked at Chase. "You'd better go talk to her."

Chase ran outside over to the girls' dorm, only to find what Michael said true. There sat Zoey in the pouring rain, her face in her hands, crying uncontrollably. Chase ran up to her.

"What's wrong?" he asked. She looked up at him, still crying.

"It's just that, we're leaving in two days." She was still crying. Chase sat down next to her and hugged her as she cried.

"I know, but I'll see you next year," Chase said hugging her.

"No, you won't," Zoey said to a now shocked Chase. "My parents don't want me to stay."

No, this can't be happening Chase thought, panicked. "Oh-" was all he could say. He was shocked beyond belief at this statement.

Zoey looked at Chase, wiping her eyes. "I'll miss you so much," she whispered, and continued crying.

"Zoey?" Zoey looked up at Chase questioningly. Chase continued. "I'll miss you, too." She smiled, and they hugged as the rain fell.

ONE MONTH LATER

"Zoey!" Zoey's mom called to her.

"What is it?" she asked glumly. Nothing was the same. She knew she would never see him again. Her depression was easily recognizable by her parents, so they had been gentle around her.

"There are some new people moving in next door. You should go introduce yourself." She peeked into Zoey's room, where she was laying on her bed. Zoey's mom smiled. "They have a boy about your age moving in, too."

"Zoey slowly stood up and headed over to the house. Yeah, she thought. Like a different boy will cheer me up. I liked Chase. She walked up to the porch and finally arrived at the door. Raising her hand to knock, she hesitated. Finally making up her mind, she knocked three times. When the door opened, her mouth came open with shock.

It was him.

I always like my stories to have happy endings. After the Burning Building and a screw up with another one (i mixed up how to turn the chapter separate), I have decided to write one-shots. I hope you enjoy this one!
