Do You Ever Wish?

by Bluestar

A little Rogue/Gambit moment I wrote for SV.

Gambit looked up from shuffling a deck of cards as Rogue's gloved fingers brushed his cheek. "Hello, sugah," murmured a voice from behind the sofa where he sat.

"Rogue, ma chere," Gambit said softly.

Rogue moved around to sit beside him. Her leg brushed against his as she settled on the sofa, and he could smell her clean scent of soap and shampoo.

"Remy, sugah . . . do you ever wish you weren't a mutant?" Gambit knew what had triggered her question. Rogue often wished she'd never developed her mutant abilities.

"Sometimes Remy do, chere. But den he t'ink of what being a mutant has brought into his life, an' he's happy."

Rogue gave a stifled sob, and burrowed into his side. He held her carefully, his heart aching for the woman he could never touch.
