Spoilers/Warnings: General arc and plot I guess. Nothing specific.
In her dream it is spring. Lilly's favourite season. Veronica is always surprised by this type of dream. You know you're dreaming and "Lilly is dead" is thumping through your head. But there is cherry blossom in the trees and Lilly is right there flicking her hair and saying "hey little sister". All Veronica can do is say "hey".
She wants to say more but Lilly raises a hand to stop her, laughs, stretches her arms behind her head and says "Cheer up, V! I'm digging this death thing, really."
Veronica raises a sceptical eyebrow.
"I can totally spy on people. Dick Casablancas in the shower? So...well the word that comes to mind is 'tiny'."
"I don't think you even need to spy to gather that" Veronica notes.
Lilly smiles. "Plus I don't need to worry about my skin and this way I'm gonna stay cute forever."
Veronica looks at her sadly. "I'd rather you were cute and alive"
Lilly sighs. "Me too, believe me. It's kind of a drag. You know me. I want to be kissing boys and sneaking out and wearing short skirts just to piss off Mom and seeing just how much I can get away with - which is usually a lot. I loved this place. And I wasn't scared, not for a second. It was a total playground. But, I'm dead now and hey, I'm a tough girl. I can handle it."
"I can't" says Veronica.
"Well toughen up little girl. Look at you with your short hair and the way you verbally pound kids for info. You're all grown up, Veronica Mars. Of course you're handling this. And you're going to kick some serious ass when you find out who killed me. Now that's my girl."
Veronica grins, reassured. "You bet I'll kick ass."
"There you go," Lilly says, and the cherry blossom sways cerise in the breeze.
"Hey Lilly?" Says Veronica. "I could never forget you."
Lilly turns her head to the left and looks Veronica full in the eye.
"I should hope not" She says with a touch of gratitude before grinning and darting forward for a phantom kiss on Veronica's cheek.
"Good-" Veronica is saying and then her eyes are open and Lilly is gone, and isn't that just like Lilly Kane?
Veronica swears to God she hears a giggle before she falls back asleep.
