Jack looked at the beautiful woman opposite him. This woman had nothing but his admiration, trust and his heart. He never thought he'd find love again… not true love like he'd had with Terri. She turned and looked at him and smiled, a slight tear in her eye. He smiled.
A year ago they'd fought demons trying to claw them down, but the two of them together had survived. Terrorists, Nina Myers, family had tried to hinder their relationship but they rose above it, their love made them strong – invincible. Her family didn't want her in the intelligence business again, and they'd blamed him. Kim found it somewhat hard to watch her dad fall passionately in love, it reminded her or her mum. One mission had gone wrong and Kim saw the way they lived for each other and felt proud. Proud to be a part of a family like that.
He turned his head and looked at Kim, holding little Angela, next to Chase. She winked at him reassuringly, Chase nodded his head as a silent support.
He was pulled back from his thoughts by a small squeeze of his hand. He looked back at her.
"Repeat after me," the vicar said…
"I Jack Bauer, take thee, Lara Sophie Doherty to be lawfully wedded wife." Jack repeated. "to have and to hold; from this day forward; for better for worse; for richer for poorer; in sickness and in health; to love and to cherish; until death us do part"
"I Lara Sophie Doherty, take thee Jack Bauer to be my lawfully wedded husband." Lara repeated "to have and to hold; from this forward; for better for worse; for richer for poorer; in sickness and in health; to love and to cherish; until death us do part"
The rest was a blur. The exchange of rings, the declaration that they were man and wife. He couldn't believe his luck. He'd publicly shown his love for a woman – his wife- in front of his friends, family and all Lara's family and friends – a declaration of love and commitment.
They walked back down the aisle Mr and Mrs Jack Bauer. Chase patted him on his back, David Palmer smiled warmly, Tony shook his hand. Kim smiled. Michelle grinned broadly and for once Chloe broke a full smile. They gained everyones respect. Not just as a couple but as a field team – they were unstoppable. They got outside the church and headed to their car. The love he felt at that moment, holding his wife's hand was suffocating – she looked breathtakingly beautiful, she glowed.
In the car she turned to him and smiled.
"Well Mr Bauer," she started with the largest smile on her face, "What could make this day any better?"
"That's a hard one Mrs Bauer!" he replied teasingly. She reached down the side of the seat and handed him an envelope. He frowned in puzzlement. He opened it and pulled the sonogram out.
"I'm pregnant!" she laughed.
His life was now complete.
