Sequel to Midnight Caller and Breathe. Spoilers through 1.21, A Trip To The Dentist.

A/N: As with Breathe, this does not feel quite right, but I'm posting it anyway. It may be taken down and revamped at a later date, when I figure out exactly what's wrong with it. Also, just because Logan has not admitted his drugging Duncan guilt in my little series here, doesn't mean he won't...I haven't decided whether or not I'm going to go that way. Italics are VM voice overs.

They were walking along the beach again. It had kinda become "Their Spot", the place they would go whenever one of them had something especially painful to talk about.

"It was GHB." Veronica said, meeting his gaze. Logan opened his mouth to speak, but she held up her hand to stop him. "I know that you had some, but I also know that you didn't have anything to do with this." She went on before he could speak.

"What happened?" He asked instead.

"Through some...bizzarre twist, I ended up getting a drugged glass and..." Her voice was thick with emotion and whisper quiet.

Come on, Mars. You can do this.

"Dick, and Beaver, and Sean escorted me to the guest room." She watched as anger pooled in Logan's eyes, and his fists clenched. Veronica put a comforting hand on his arm. "It wasn't one of them." She said, looking down at the sand they kicked up as they walked. "Duncan...found me, and he...he was wasted, and I was...out of it...and..." She let herself trail off, unable to look him in the eye. She wasn't sure what she would see there. Veronica didn't want to see pity she was sure she would find. They were quiet as they walked, the soothing crash of the ocean an ironic backdrop to the scene at hand.

"Are you...ok?" Logan seemed unable to form a coherent thought.

No.

"As ok as I can be right now." She answered. She bit her lip. "There's more." Veronica continued as she finally looked up at him.

"I'm not going to like this part, am I?" He asked, watching as she shook her hand.

"I found out why he broke up with me." Veronica began, staring off into the surf. Logan stilled. "I don't know what he told you, but..."

"He said it was between the two of you." Logan replied, moving a piece of windblown hair out of her eyes. She crossed her arms over her chest.

"My mother and Duncan's father were King and Queen of the prom when they were in high school." She told him, and saw the confusion on his face. "Their relationship didn't end when she met and married my dad." Her voice quavered as he stared down at her. He didn't seem to be grasping exactly what she was saying.

Just say it, Mars. Get it over with.

"There's a strong possibility that Jake Kane is my father."

"What?" He stammered out, grabbing her arm before she could walk away from him. "Wait. You're saying that..." Logan managed.

"That Duncan broke up with me because I'm his sister." Veronica finished for him.

God, it doesn't sound any less gross or soap opera-ish now than it did earlier.

"But the party was after you two..." Logan seemed to be in shock.

"I know." It came out as matter of fact as she could make it sound.

I know.
