Author's Notes: Inspired by two things: One: "If Heaven", a country song by Andy Griggs. I would have put in the lyrics in, but because of the new rule, I can't. And two: that famous quote used by Gandalf to Pippin near the end of "ROTK". ("White shores and beyound... The far green country under a swift sunrise..." - Gandalf.) Anyway: takes place durning the eppy where Boone dies. One-shot. Please read and review. Thanks.

If Heaven:

"Wait!"

Jack put down the hunk of metal that he was about to use on Boone's leg when his friend came to. The doctor went to his side and told him: "This is the only way. If I do this, there're more of a chance you could live."

Boone could feel tears filling his eyes. Jack was trying so hard to save him, but Boone knew all to well, that this was it. "You have to let me go..."

Jack couldn't hold it in any longer. He let the tears flow from his eys and replied: "I can't."

Boone managed to give him a small smile. "I'm... Not... Afraid, you know..." Boone said as he caughed up a little blood.

Jack found a rag and whipped it away from his lips. "Don't talk like that." The doctor told him. "It's not over yet."

"Jack, don't worry..." Boone replied weakly. "I'll be okay." he sighed and asked: "What do you think Heaven is like?"

The doctor didn't know how to answer that. He really wasn't a religious person. However, he had to think of something to tell Boone. He thought for a moment, until he finally answered him: "A peaceful place where all the ones you have loved are waiting for you..."

"That doesn't sound too bad." said Boone with a soft laugh.

Jack whipped away a few tears but when he looked back up at Boone, the light in his eyes went out. He was gone. The doctor placed his hand over his eyes and closed them shut.

"I'm sorry..." Jack sobbed.

The doctor slowly stood up. He had to go tell the others. Jack stummbled across the sand. Before he left the tent, he turned one last time to Boone. Then he made out of the tent. As he left the tent, he heard these words whispred in his ear: "I'll be waiting..."

Those words comforted Jack. He couldn't help but smile. He would see his friend again, just not right now.
