Seeing Beyond the Stars
For many years I've
seen the stars
The bright specks in an
otherwise black and void sky
Each one a giant ball
of brilliantly burning gas
I've learned about
constellations, galaxies, and black holes
All of it was only
mildly interesting to me.
Then I met you and you
changed everything
You looked up at my sky
and your eyes filled with awe
If given the chance,
you'd spend hours gazing up
Nothing would stop you
from visiting the starry expanse
Every night you'd
wander out and gaze upon my sky.
I knew you had a
special eye for this and that,
You understood it all
so much better than I.
So I chanced another
glance to reassess these stars,
Still nothing like that
sense of awe tugged at my heart,
I felt so cold, so
completely and utterly depraved.
Then a thought filled
my mind with hope,
The beauty of the stars
could still be mine.
Though I cannot
appreciate them solely on my own,
I do this one small
thing each night as I peek outside,
For you I pray to God
on high and ask him to bless.
