PROPHECY
by YANNIK
As she entered the kitchen she was a bit surprised. It looked so normal. Almost as her grandma's kitchen in old...
It was not my grandma! - Trinity scolded herself. Memory still hurt, though she was sure it shouldn't anymore. She loved the old woman, and when the latter died, Trin was left all alone in the world she detested. That's when she started searching. That's what led her to finding... this.
An elderly woman smiled at Trinity as the girl was still standing in the entrance.
"Come in my dear. Be with you in a minute."
The Oracle checked the oven, and whipped her hands in a cloth.
Then she looked at Trinity. She looked very closely and intensely.
"So... What do we have? Nice girl." She smiled a wide smile and moved back a little. "You're in love, sweetie."
Trinity was startled and... well... a bit offended.
"No, I'm not."
"If you say so." The Oracle shrugged as she returned to whatever she was baking in that oven.
"I'm not lovable type."
"If you say so, sweetie."
"You doubt that?"
As Oracle turned to Trinity again, her face was stern, though she was smiling still.
"I do not doubt" she explained. "I know." Then she softened a little. And she said as if she could read Trinity's very heart. "You mean you wouldn't fall in love with... just a random guy, right? Not - anyone."
"Perhaps."
"Right. Now, tell me... Why did you join Morpheus' crew?"
Sudden change of subject confused Trinity.
"I... did... because..." she needed a moment to think. But the Oracle was persistent.
"Well?"
"Because he's searching for The One."
"Bingo!"
Trinity scowled. What was that about? Oracle's mysteries - she never liked prophets of any kind, even in the old world. Rambling! First about love, now about Morpheus' goal, and The One...
And then Trinity hesitated... Maybe Oracle didn't change the subject after all?
"What do you mean? That I'd fall in love with The One? Do you think that?..."
"Do you?"
"That would be... Well, that would..." Trinity was confused, but then excitement took over. "That's the key! I'll fall in love, and the one I'd fall in love with will be... The One. That's... That's the key! That's how we will know!" she watched Oracle's inexplicable smile for a brief second, and then... "I gotta tell Morpheus!" she turned away.
"Hey, you don't want a cookie?" The Oracle called, but Trinity was already out the door.
Morpheus startled her however, saying:
"What you heard was for your ears only."
