Shimmy Shuffle
In response to this week's unbound challenge. Super Fluffy-Fluffernutty-but hey-it's spring.
"What is that supposed to be?"….
Grissom froze. He thought that no one would be using the employee aerobic space at this time of the day. The nightshift was long gone and the day shift and split shift were working. Grissom had just finished a double and needed to let off steam. Willing himself not to blush, he turned around to face Sara. She was smirking.
"It's a triple time step" he said, bracing himself for what he was sure was to be some gentle mocking from his favorite CSI.
"Actually your left foot is dragging." Sara proceeded to demonstrate the step. Grissom couldn't help but notice her suit, and remembered that she had court today. Sara's hair and suit jacket were slightly damp so she must have gotten caught in a drizzle. He also noticed that she was wearing a new suit, it was charcoal grey, with a bit of lavender peeking out behind the jacket and the skirt curved like a trumpet. It was a flattering look indeed, and Grissom began having a hard time paying attention to what Sara was saying.
"I'm sorry, what did you say?"
Sara grinned. She loved when she threw Grissom off. "I was saying, I know why I know how to tap dance, but I was wondering where you picked it up."
Grissom stood there not knowing what to say. Sara sighed. "I'll tell if you do."
Grissom smiled, he couldn't refuse a quid pro quo, and it would be nice to learn more about Sara.
"My mom liked musicals before she lost her hearing. Afterwards, she just liked the dancing. She wanted to go to class, but did not want to go alone, so I went with her. I gave it up when I went to college, but picked it up recently. I needed exercise, and a diversion to get my head out of the microscope." Sara nodded.
"When I was in High School I fell madly in love with Garrett Duncan. I even tried out for the spring musical, "Anything Goes" I made the chorus and had to learn tap-dancing. It was a fun experience."
Grissom grinned, "And Garrett was he impressed? Did your ploy work?"
Sara snickered, "He wasn't into me, or my gender. The first of many emotionally unavailable men." She looked sad for a second, but brushed it off and smiled.
Grissom looked at Sara. She was lovely and a puzzle and a little sad.
"Is it still raining?"
Sara nodded. "Listen, you can hear it coming down. I was going to go for a run today, but I think it will have to wait."
Grissom looked at Sara. If he lived to be 100, he would never be able to tell you what had come over him, but he turned to her and asked her to dance.
Sara smiled, nodded her head and took off her suit jacket, revealing a lavender silk t-shirt.
The music began and they joined hands and began dancing. Grissom barely heard the lyrics about being in heaven and dancing cheek to cheek, as he took in the feel of Sara's hands and back and the smell of her. They glided, they time stepped, shimmy shuffled, they twirled and as they danced, five years of tension, fear, jealousy, misunderstandings and angst seemed to melt away.
All too soon the music ended and they were in each other's arms. Thunder cracked and lighting flashed, but they were oblivious to everything but each other, smiling, sweating and panting slightly.
Grissom reached towards her, took her face in his hands and kissed her. She put her hands over his and deepened the kiss.
Then the lights went out.
