Escaping!

Okay here's chapter two. Enjoy! You should know if you don't review I will die and this story will be cut off abruptly leaving you hanging! Do you want that? Hmmm? Do you? Also I own nothing, thought I'd tell you that. Pity me! But I'm in a good mood, you know why? because I just figured out where this story is going! I know the end. When I started I just started with the idea of the three of them running into each other in the hall and screaming. After that I was lost. But that's okay cause now I know! YAY! Remember to REVIEW!

The three continued screaming turning from one another in the back of their minds wondering who would run out of breath first. Johnny was the first to stop screaming then Devi came to her senses and ceased screaming leaving only Squee. The painter raised an eyebrow at the tiny screaming child. She opened her mouth to shush him when a loud siren interrupted. A red light began to flash over their heads. One of these lights every few feet. Squee silenced himself. A voice came over the intercom.

"Security! Dangerous crazies are on the loose! Find them!" Devi gasped; she was an escapee! She would probably be taken out of her padded room and shoved into a prison cell.

"Oh fuck!" she screamed and scrambled to her feet. She frantically jerked her head around looking for a way out, "This way!" she decided randomly pointing to the hall across from her. She took off, Johnny began to race after her. Squee stood still, over whelmed by the flashing lights, loud noises, and general chaos. After making it about half way down the hall Johnny turned his head and saw Squee frozen in the hall. The maniac doubled back and grabbed Squee dragging him behind him. They ran as quickly as they could down this hall. Devi was in lead with Johnny treading on her heels about five feet behind. Suddenly from around a corner a huge man in white uniform appeared. Before Devi could react he reached out his fat arms and grabbed her.

"Lemme go!" she screamed thrashing.

"Okay you wacky weirdoes. I've got you so just stop." Johnny came to halt, he was going to have to kill this guy bare handed. Not his favorite method but it had to be done. This guy was just begging for it. Johnny felt obliged to kill this bastard even leaving out the fact that this guy had used the evil, horrible, "W" word. Regardless of that Johnny knew what he had to do. He released Squee's hand and began to move in for the kill.

Devi twisted her head to look at her captor he had big round eyes one was larger then the other, he had a triumphant look on his disgusting unshaved face. She narrowed her eyes and said, "LET GO!" He squeezed her harder. That was it, he had had his chance. She raised her leg as high as it would go and brought it back between his legs with a triple power points kick. The man cried out and doubled over in pain letting go of her. The purple haired girl looked down at him. He raised his head and glared at her, "You b-bitch!"

"Yep." Devi pulled back her fist and punched him square in the jaw spit and blood sprayed out of his mouth as he fell. She heard a screeching noise. Someone had slammed on their breaks quickly. Devi turned around and saw Johnny standing there with his arm pulled back as though he had been prepared to punch. A strand of hair fell over her raised eyebrow.

"Come on, let's hurry!" Johnny nodded, reached back, grabbed the scared child's hand and took off running. As Devi ran she shook her head trying to think, "Why did I encourage that homicidal maniac to fallow? Maybe it's because he's holding the little kid captive or something. I probably just don't want the guilt of knowing I left a kid in the Nny's company."

"Don't even know what your own thoughts anymore?" someone asked.

"Of course I do! I just am having a little trouble focusing while running for my life!" she responded missing the importance of the fact she had just spoken to some one in her brain. Her eyes grew big as she approached a set of double doors. She remembered them from when she was coming in, in the first place. "I know those doors" she said to her inner monolog, "the first day they had dragged me in here as we had left the front offices and waiting room we went through those doors!" she had reached the doors and slid to a halt in front of the door. Devi stared at an electronic number pad out loud she said, "It takes a combination on a key pad, AND I KNOW IT!" In her mind she saw as they had carried/dragged her in she had turned her head back to glimpse freedom a last time and someone had been accessing the exist codes! She had only seen them out of the corner of her eye but she was pretty sure she had seen what it was.

Johnny and Squee reached the doors but Devi wasn't paying attention to them. Her scarred finger hovered over the keypad, "Here goes nothing," she whispered but could not be heard over the sirens that were still blaring. 5-5-5-….6! A small green light flashed on and a soft buzzer sounded. Devi pushed on the metal door and it opened! Johnny and Squee stood there stunned that she had been able to get the code on the first try.

"She must be psychic! Oh! Psychics are scary!" Squee said freaking out.

"Come on! Hurry!" she commanded. The three ran out into the lobby. It was large and like most lobbies sorely depressing and mismatched as though designed by suicidal colorblind monkeys. The floor was tiled blue and throw-up green. The walls were a dull shade of yellow with mysterious stains and were plagued with hideous doctors' pictures and clearly home made diplomas. Across from the voices hearing trio was the front door. Not needing to be told they raced to the door pushed it open and ran like hell. Spotlights skimmed over them ever so often as they ran across the hospital grounds. soon they crossed out of the plain and into a thicket of trees. As they tore through the near by woods their strength began to give out. After about twenty minutes of run/jogging Devi collapsed against a sappy evergreen.

"Just…give…me…a…minute." She sunk down into a sitting position. Johnny looked down at her. He was surprised he had had more faith in her strength then this. They had barely been running for what felt like only a short time. Johnny set down the tiny squeaking child who he had been carrying the whole time. Squee immediately retreated several feet. Not necessarily out of fear just out of habit. Things were getting heavy he needed consoling. He needed to talk to Shmee. Squee sat down and entered his own little world. Johnny crouched beside his once friend, "Come on Devi I know your stronger then this. I mean you beat the crap outta me and ran for who knows how long. So why not just get up?" she looked up at him, "Nny," she whispered looking deep in to his eyes. Devi swung her arm and backhanded him across the face. Johnny fell to the side getting a mouth full of dirt. He sat up sputtering the shouted.

"What was that for!" he paused, "Oh, your still mad," it was more of a question then a statement.

"Damn right I'm still mad!" she screamed forgetting her choppy breathing, "Nny! Don't play it off like it was just some little thing like stepping on my foot, you fucking tried to KILL me! You bastard! Or did you forget about that? I'm shocked that they didn't give you the chair! They should've you ass!" They heard a terrified squeak and turned to Squee. He was staring at them with large eyes. Devi smiled kindly at the boy. Devi wasn't always fond of children but that didn't mean she wanted to scare them especially a little boy she was on the run with!

"Hey what's your name?"

"Todd," he whimpered.

"I'm sorry Todd. It's just that I'm a little testy right now. Cause I have no shoes and we've been running over rocks, thorns, sticks, and all that stuff. So I'm a little upset. You can understand that?" he nodded. She tousled his hair, "Good," Johnny looked down at her feet for the first time. Any body else probably would have gasped but he'd seen much more gasp worthy things in his life. Her feet were as she implied in bad shape. Her once white socks were now brown and speckled with crimson. They were torn and basically demolished. Johnny looked around. there was nothing here he could use to aid her feet, he didn't even have anything to clean them with, but he could prevent further damage. Johnny plopped down on a small patch of crab grass and began to unbuckle his boots. Devi finished talking to Squee and turned around to find a pair of boots in her face. She instinctively leaned back. Johnny lowered the boots to be able to look at her when he spoke, "Here, so that your feet don't get any more screwed up." He pushed the boots at her. She looked at them then shook her head, "I cant."

"Yes you can." She opened her mouth to protest but he had already gotten up and was walking away. No was not an option. She reluctantly slid the boots on. They were shockingly comfortable. She stood up and looked down at her feet in the boots. It was odd they felt like they fit perfectly. she tested them out a little: tapped the toe against a tree trunk, clicked the heals together, kicked the air, they were great. Her feet even felt a lot better (A/N: do not read in to the magic boots thingy: it is irrelevant). She walked over to Johnny. He was inspecting his black socks or the soles of his feet she wasn't sure.

"Nny," he turned around, "Thanks." He smiled at her.

"It is an honor to aid one of the people who make this planet worth anything. You were one those few whom I felt any emotion toward other then disgust. If I can do just one thing to insure your comfort I will do so." Devi's eyes narrowed.

"You say that I make this planet worth something?" his eyes dropped he was not used to sharing se these sort of positive feelings, "So…" she continued, "WHY IN THE HELL DID YOU TRY TO KILL ME? If I'm so great and you want to ensure my comfort then why? You think I'd be more comfortable in a coffin? Huh? Well they're not as comfy as they look, I know! Don't ask! And-"

"SQUEE!" Devi turned around prepared to re-explain the problem. It seemed every time she spoke to her would-be killer she began screaming and scaring Todd. When she turned she didn't see him cowering or running away but running toward them. He ran up to Devi and began to freak out pulling on her shirt, "They, and the flashlights, and they're get us, a-and bad stuff!"

"Flashlights? Bad stuff?" she gasped and squinted through the trees seeing a white beam slowly sweeping across the ground. Johnny reached out his hand and tugged on her shoulder. She didn't need to be told twice. She picked Squee up before Johnny had the chance and the three were off again.

As Devi ran she was shocked at how easy it was to run in those boots! Most knee-high boots she had wore were impossible to walk in let alone run in! She jumped over tree roots and stumps. Occasionally she would glance over at Johnny. He was enduring almost unaffected with the exception of a wince now and then.

While the adults ran Squee rested in Devi's arms listening to his bear. Normally at various points in the conversation he would put in a word but this time he was too shocked to speak. The bear was speaking madness he had to be! It couldn't be true. Sure his neighbor was crazy but he could be what the bear was telling him and the purple haired girl was nice to him and seemed to sincerely like him. But it was all a rouse, his bear told him. Before the stuffed animal could finish they had stopped running. The trio had reached the edge of the woods and were standing on the boarder of a chaotic looking city. Civilization. A haven for fugitives, no one paid you any attention in these cities unless you stuck out. The did but they'd find away around that. Devi set him down and stepped forward to inspect things for safety with her homicidal friend. Squee had a sad and frightened expression on his face as he stared into the bear's eyes looking for any sign that this was a joke, "You really want me to kill them? But-but I don't wanna kill any body!" he was silent, "I don't care if it's easy or not I just don't want to…" he was interrupted by his bear, "If they die everything will be okay? Mommy and Daddy will love me again?" he took a shaky breath, "I-I know you take care of me, you've always taken care of me but I just cant…" he shut his eyes as the bear screamed silently at him, "Fine!" he gulped back tears, "I'll make the bad monsters holding you back go away. They wont make you weak anymore. But you are sure they're monsters and not people right?" He swallowed again, "Okay Shmee, how do I do it?" Devi walked up behind Squee and said, "Come on! We're going to stay in a motel tonight then we'll find some thing better tomorrow." She stopped and tilted her head, "Man if I didn't know better then I'd swear that bear's grin has gotten bigger. Freaky. Anyway come on." He gulped a last time and fallowed.
