"You quit?"

"Yeah. I just can't do it anymore. I need to be around for my kids. With Bosco they're gonna need me now more than ever. Especially Amanda."

"Daddy's little girl."

"Yep."

"What did Billy say?"

"He said they'd miss me but they'd understand. Carlos said I was doing the right thing you know?" Kim shot a look at the clock.

"He'll be okay."

"He's been in there a long time."

"He's strong and he's got a lot to live for. C'mon, you think he'd leave you to torture Amanda's future dates alone?"

Kim laughed a little.

"Kimmy, it's not as bad as it was with Alex."

"Faith had so much blood on her. It was all his. She wouldn't let me tell Rose, you know? She said it had to be her. She went to wash up and then she was going to tell him. Swersky offered but she turned him down."

"Kim, listen to me. It's okay. He'll be okay."

"You don't know that."

"Sure I do."

"How?"

"I'm a very wise man."

"Sure you are."

"Kim, he'll be okay."

"Promise?"

"Promise. It's not his time yet. He's got a lot more living to do."

"You sound like a musical."

Her response was a kiss on the top of the head. "Time to wake up."

"What?"

"Kim? Kim, time to wake up."

Kim opened her eyes and saw her mother staring at her. "Mom?"

"Sweetie, are you okay? You were talking in your sleep. Something about a musical."

Kim blinked and looked around her. She was in the surgical waiting room. "Uh, yeah. I'm okay. Is there any word?"

"Yeah. He's out of surgery. The doctors don't know which way it's going to go though. But the doctor's say that since he made it through surgery, it's a good sign."

Kim nodded. "They won't let me see him for a while, right?"

"No. They said after he's out of recovery."

Kim nodded again. "I have to go to the house for a little while. I won't be long."

Kim looked around the kitchen of the firehouse. She had a lot of good memories here.

She was sitting at the table reading a magazine when Alex sat across from her.

"Kim, you got a pen?"

"Yeah," she handed it across the table without looking up.

"Oh my God," she heard before Alex took her hand.

"What?" She looked up.

"When did he ask you?" Alex smiled as she looked at Kim's ring.

"Last night," Kim smiled.

"Doc! Carlos! Get in here! Kim's getting married."

------

"Uh, what is that smell?" Jimmy asked sitting down on one side of Carlos while Kim sat on the other.

"Eww," Kim sniffed and then made a show of looking at her shoes. "Oh man," she sniffed. "Yuck." Then she took a swipe and put it in her mouth.

"Whoa!" Carlos looked grossed out.

Kim offered him the boot, "Want some?"

"No!"

"How about some of this?" Jimmy offered him a jar of peanut butter as the table cracked up.-

------

"Oh my God. You know," Alex realized as she stared at Bobby.

Bobby laughed, "That was sweet."

"C'mon Bobby, you have to give her credit for originality."

"Do I?"

"Yeah, some of us enjoyed it," Kim smirked.

Kim took a deep breath. She'd leave the bad memories of this place for another day and possibly a session with a shrink. She picked up her things and put down the stethoscope she had in her hands. That didn't belong to her anymore. She walked down the stairs and out of the garage. Just as she got to the curb she turned around and looked at the building before her.

"Bye guys. Take care."
