A/n: I don't own, don sue

Lorelai stared at her daughter's retreating form, her mouth hanging open slightly. She hadn't wanted this to be a fight. She just wanted to share her happiness with the most important person in her world. Rory looked at her over her shoulder.

Rory's eyes weren't the ones Lorelai had come to love looking at the last twenty years. They weren't her daughter's eyes. They were hers. They were hers the moment she decided to walk out of her parents lives.

"Rory..." Lorelai called softly. Rory shook her head and walked away. Just like that. For no good reason Lorelai could sum up.

Lorelai's world had just crashed around her.

Her Angel had just walked out on her.

Her Angel didn't even care.

"Rory!"

"Lorelai, go to sleep." Luke cooed softly as he sat rocking her on their couch. Lorelai shook her head and looked at the picture on the mantle f her and her daughter. Her Angel. Her best friend. "It'll all work itself out. You know it will."

She used to take pride when people said Rory was just like her. They liked all the same things. They ate the same things. They talked the same way. They dressed the same. They loved the same music. They both loved Luke and Stars Hollow and each other.

They had the same eyes.

That was what really broke her heart every time she saw her daughter's perfect smiling eyes.

She wanted to hear Rory say 'I love you' one more time, but she knew that'd never be enough.

She wanted to hear it every day.

Now that was over.

She'd never hear it again.

Lorelai didn't know how long she sat crumpled on the couch with Luke gently rocking her and smoothing her hair and kissing her and she didn't know when she fell asleep or how long she was asleep. She didn't have to.

She knew her daughter wasn't back.
