Chris Salling stared up at the night sky in confusion. One by one, each of the stars seemed to be going out, dissapearing.
"Chris!"called her younger sister Erin. "Dad says to get in here! It's getting late and you'll catch a cold!"
Sighing, Chris enterred the house and plopped down on the couch beside her father and two sisters, who were watching 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire'. The living room was wirring with technology; a big screen TV, a plasma-screen computer on a desk in the corner, Chris' GameBoy restoring power to its PowerPak, the PlayStation2 perched on a shelf over the TV, and Chris' huge collection of Japanese and horror DVDs and Survival Horror and RPG video games all took up space in the large room.
For the most part, the Sallings were an average family, other than the fact that the girls' mother had died giving birth to the youngest daughter, 12-year-old Amber, and Chris' obsession with Japan.
"You guys notice anything wierd?"asked Chris, playing with one of her dark-dark-brown (nearly black) pigtails. "The stars outside... it's like they're vanishing."
Amber and Erin only laughed. Their father, Jason, cast his daughter a concerned look, then returned his focus to the television set. Chris rose from the couch and walked into her bedroom, greeting her cat, Neko. On several shelves around the room were possibly hundreds of tomes of manga, many of which Chris had taken a pencil to, editing to create her own story.
"Neko-chan,"sighed Chris, sitting on her bed and drawing the black cat into her lap. "How come whenever I see something wierd, no one takes me seriously? It's not fair!"
Neko meowed, and Chris curled up and fell asleep, unaware that the next morning would bring disastrous changes to her life...
