Chapter One
"Hi Greg. It's Nikki. I don't know if you remember me or not, but I figured I'd try. Uh, I'm going to be in Las Vegas for a while, and I was wondering if you wanted to get together. Give me a call back at 765-389-6554, alright? I miss you. Bye." Nikki hung up the phone, butterflies in her stomach hoping Greg would call her back soon.
In the meantime, she had a lot of things to unpack into her new house. She turned on her radio, and flipped through the stations to find a good one. When she finally did, she turned up the volume and began to tear through her boxes. About an hour later, two girls strolled into the house, laughing and carrying more boxes.
"Hey Nik. We finally got the rest of our stuff. Thank God!" one of the girls said with a smile.
"Hey Jules." Nikki turned down the radio and helped Jules and Mandy carry in the rest of the boxes.
The were just about to sit down and eat dinner when Nikki's cell phone rang. "Hey Mandy, can you grab that for me?" Nikki asked.
Mandy grabbed the cell and looked at the screen. "Greg Sanders? Who's that?"
"Oh my God! Mandy, answer it!"
"Alright, already." She pressed a button. "Hello?...Yeah, hold on a second. Here ya go, Nik." She tossed the phone to Nikki.
"Hello?" The butterflies returned.
"Hey Nikki. It's Greg."
"Hey. What's up?"
"Nothing, I guess. Uh, you called?"
"Oh, yeah. I did. I was wondering if maybe you wanted to hang out or something?"
"How long are you in Las Vegas?"
"Well, I kind of moved here with a couple of friends, so hopefully a long time."
"Oh, really? That's cool. Um, I work the night shift here so maybe we could chill tomorrow morning? Or something..."
"Yeah, sure. That'd be great."
"So how about we meet for breakfast? My treat."
"Ok...where?" Nikki looked up at Jules as her friend finally joined them at the table.
They finished making plans and said their goodbyes. When she hung up, Nikki's face was red, and she was smiling with excitement.
"Who was that?" Jules asked.
"Do you remember Greg Sanders?"
"How could I not? You two were inseparable in college."
Nikki smiled. "That was him. He wants to meet me for breakfast in the morning."
"Hey, that's awesome Nikki." Jules replied, a hint of concern in her voice.
"What?"
"What what?"
"You have a tone. What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"Jules..."
"Just be careful. He broke your heart last time he 'just wanted to meet you'." she blurted out.
"I know Jules. I'll be on my guard, I promise."
"Ok, well if for whatever reason, anything goes wrong, remember the code."
"Yes, Jules. Should anything go wrong, I'll secretly text you 8537."
"Ok." Nikki and Jules both chuckled. "Let's eat, girls."
