Ordinary Magic
By Teldra
Ordinary. It's what I am. What they aren't. Not a one. Special.
You can see that--something--staring out of their eyes. Sparkling. It makes their world glow. Their own special set of rose colored glasses. Fashionable ones for most of them.
What's it like? Seeing as they do? I'll never know. Never see as they do.
Seeing the magic. Tasting it. Living it. Understanding the nature of a supernatural thing and considering it ordinary.
They'll never see as I do. See magic and know enchantment. Feel awe for something I know I'll never do.
Use my hands to create something.
Know joy for the reality of things ordinary people find extraordinary. To see with eyes not clouded with magic. Or in my case one eye, but who's counting?
Unable to feel the magic, be one with the magic. To reach for the stars and know I'll never touch--not like them. I watch them reach out and touch. See the fierce wonder, their joy in grabbing something we regular humans will never reach.
Wish I could fly so maybe just once I could touch it with my own fingers.
But I know being ordinary lets me keep wondering. Never really knowing. I'll always have that sense of one day maybe...
For now I'll just breathe in the scent of mortal things, ordinary things. And I'll gaze at those stars and dream an impossible dream.
