Five years ago, Ash Ketchum became the youngest Pokemon trainer to ever defeat the Elite Four and become a Pokemon Master. Soon after, the Pokemon craze ensued, every person who was able wanted to become a Pokemon trainer and attempt to break the record. Just months after, regulations were required for anyone to become a Pokemon trainer.
But two years ago, Ash Ketchum disappeared. Whether he was kidnapped by those who opposed him or simply ran away from the limelight is still unknown. However, this caused Pallet Town to lose it's faith in Pokemon, and thus the loss of the golden child also meant the loss of the Pokemon life for the small town.
Professor Oak held faith though, and because of his past success, his Pokemon research facility stayed in Pallet Town. However, growing older and feeling the want to retire, Oak got rid of his Pokemon except for three of the usual starters he offered; Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle.
Putting out a request, Professor Oak requests for everyone ages 13-16 to come and take the test to become a Pokemon trainer and the interview that comes with it. He will then select three of the ones who pass and they will become his last three trainers; left to fulfill a legacy that the famous Ash Ketchum created.
A month later, Professor Oak comes to a decision. His first decision is Kionji, a kids who has studied under Professor Oak since she could walk. Not letting the town's attitude on Pokemon change her, she has learned many things from being taught by Oak, and was allowed to be the first to pick out of the three Pokemon when the day came.
Making his second choice, he selected Kyle. A quiet boy who has always tried to stay to himself, he has always dreamed of being a gym leader. Never wanting much fame, he wants to stay in the shadows and teach upcoming trainers a thing or two about Pokemon.
And then there's me; Trey. I was selected last, so I get stuck with whoever is left, though I think I can become great with any of them. Ever since I was young, the comparisons between Ash and I were heard throughout town. Since then, I have always wanted to travel his path and see if I truly do match up to the legend.
Tomorrow morning we are all suppose to meet at Professor Oak's lab. Kionji picking first, then Kyle. After that, I'm presented with my Pokemon. Then, it's off on my own adventure, starting with a trip to Viridian City. Things will certainly be interesting.
I haven't played Pokemon in about 3 years, so I'm rusty. Also, the backstory wasn't long, but it should get better as I get used to it. Bear with me.
