For Kelsie, as a second annual birthday slash for you! And I know it's not Harry/Ron, but you have no idea how great it is to be able to wrote Ford/Arthur for someone and they will share the enthusiasm. Happy Birthday lovely!
Author's Note- Ah...Hitchhiker's Guide...this is my first Ford/Arthur. I finished all the books awhile ago and had some slash in mind. And the movie was great.("Far out!" ...i adore Zaphod) I hope this is even vaguely enjoyable. If you don't like slash, then don't read it.
Of Hiccups and Ford Getting What He Wants
Arthur had forgotten what Ford was talking about. Again...He was sure it had had something to do with Zaphod and Ford's childhood and something about something else very improbable. But Arthur Dent was never sure of very many things these days.
Arthur hiccuped. Ford blinked.
"Arthur are you listening?"
"Yes."
"You're hiccuping. Stop it."
"I can't! I tried."
"Then you're not trying hard enough."
Ford had an unusual and almost annoying habit of being very good at getting what he wanted. It wasn't so much a habit as it was his extreme luck and copious amounts of charm that he seemed to be oblivious to.
Arthur hated him for it He hiccuped again.
"Can't you at least hiccup quietly then? Do you remember what I was talking about?"
Arthur blinked and shook his head.
"I wasn't listening either, and did you just ask me to hiccup quietly?"
Ford reached over top of Arthur for what was left of their Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters and gave him a sidelong glance and winked. Arthur hiccuped innocently.
"Because one should not," -hiccup- "be forced to," -hiccup- "hiccup in silence."
Ford took a long drink of the lime greenish liquid and gave him a wicked looking grin that made Arthur shrink back and look around him.
Looks like that normally meant one of two things when coming from Ford Prefect, that: A.) something extremely terrifying and life altering was about to occur...or B.) Ford was extremely drunk. And sometimes both of these at the same time.
Arthur sincerely hoped that it was niether.
Because both were difficult to deal with. And he was beginning to calculate the many possible ways that something could go wrong at that moment. He hiccuped again.
Arthur suddenly became aware of a warm pair of lips at the back of his neck.
"Ford?"
"Hmmm...?" came the reply, with a warm breath of air at his ear. Arthur hiccuped and shivered, Ford laughed quietly.
"What're you doing?"
"Getting rid of your hiccups."
Ford gave him a lazy smile and then kissed him, running a thumb along Arthur's jawline, grinning against his lips as if kissing his best friend was something completely normal all of the sudden.
"Mmm...okay..." Arthur mumbled as his brain slowly turned into a lumpy mush and he wondered vaguely why he didn't get the hiccups more often, and if Ford got them at all?
And Ford grinned, again, because he didn't, and this was exactly what he had wanted.
