Warning
Character death.
Rodney was working late on the ZPM trying to get some kind of power outage on it. So far, he'd achieved nothing. The ZPM was dead from powering the shield for so long. Rodney sighed and sat down.
It had been just over two weeks since the Daedalus had arrived and helped them defend what was left of Atlantis and the crew. But not without losses. The one that affected the Atlantis crew the most had been the loss of Lt Aiden Ford.
When Rodney had found out, he had frozen. Aiden was a friend, they bantered at each other, the sniped at each other but they were friends none the less.
Rodney had seen how losing Aiden had affected the whole team.
Elizabeth was a woman he'd thought would never cry but he'd seen a few tears fall from her eyes. Heard her choke back sobs. He knew a part of her had died when Aiden took his final breath.
John had took Aiden's death hard but had not yet mourned for his friend, he seemed more content with helping Elizabeth through everything then facing the fact that he would never see his friend again.
And Teyla, perhaps the person who knew Aiden the most, the one who loved him the most. Maybe not in a romantic way, but in a friendship. The two had become so comfortable in each other's presence that Rodney wondered whether Teyla would find that connection again.
Rodney dropped his head in his hands until he heard someone enter the lab. He lifted his head and looked at the person who had just walked in.
Teyla was stood near the door looking at him, sadness in her eyes and smile. Rodney sighed at how weak she looked and stood up to help her to a nearby chair.
"How are you feeling Teyla?"
Teyla smiled at him weakly
"Better, Dr Beckett said my injuries are nearly fully healed."
Rodney nodded and sighed. Teyla had been avoiding his questions about Aiden, about how she felt about his death.
"If you ever need anyone to talk to Teyla…"
Teyla nodded at him.
"I know"
The two smiled at each other.
Rodney would never have guessed the feelings he would hold for this woman, how important she would become to him. Truth be told he'd thought about what would happen if their relationship would progress, she'd already changed him more then she would ever know and, her sense of right and wrong had impressed Rodney, made him want to learn more about her.
Overtime they had become close friends and trusted each other unquestionably.
Rodney gazed up at Teyla when he felt her grab his hand. She looked away from him until he placed his other hand on hers and grasped it. The two friends looked at each other.
There were both there for each other but what would happen beyond that?
Only time would tell.
