Center Stage

Ellie never really liked being the center of attention. She thought it was a little over rated. Yet, here she was, for some odd reason, the star of the play. That alone must have shocked everyone. A bigger shock factor, she was good. Really good.

Romeo and Juliet has always been her favourite play since she was young. But Ellie would never admit it to anyone. So, when Degrassi decided they were putting it on as the school's play for the year, Ellie figured she might as well give it a go and audition for the part of Juliet. She spent the first couple minutes of her audition snapping her rubber bands against her wrist, while she recited her favourite scene from memory. After she got more comfortable, she stopped the snapping and really got into the part.

Now here she was, three weeks later, going through the procedure of the first dress rehearsal. She could feel her nerves kick in. Opening night was only a week away, and she was still too nervous to kiss the guy playing opposite lead to her. Jay Hogart of all people. He got stuck auditioning for the play as a charitable act, instead of being thrown in Saturday detention. Ellie was quite shocked to see him there. She was even more shocked that he would audition for the part of Romeo.

Ellie had to admit to herself, she like Jay. She liked him a little bit more than she should like her ex-boyfriend's best friend. But, she just couldn't help it. Alex would completely kill her if she knew about her feelings.

Ellie winced as she stubbed her toe on the 'balcony' set. Jay furrowed his eyebrows at her, but continued on with delivering his lines. Ellie took a couple of deep calming breaths, snapped her rubber bands a couple times and then recited her lines.

"Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name!.."

Ellie continued on. Jay was completely taken aback by all the emotion she was putting into her lines. He couldn't help but feel some attraction to her.

Why does she have to be so hot?Jay thought, licking his lips and watching her finish her part.

Ellie shot him a nervous smile from her position above him. Jay felt his heart leap, and he smiled back at her.

Although there were other people on the stage, both Jay and Ellie felt like they were the only two. They were Romeo and Juliet. Neither one of them could deny the secret attraction that they shared. However both of them didn't know the other one was attracted to them.
