Why She Kept Her Head Down

Chapter 16:Finding A Way Out
Over the next couple of weeks Kagome was forced to start going to an all girls school.
This transition only fueled her need for departure from her vile new surroundings. Everyday she was to go to school and return home immediately after. She already knew the consequences for her actions; she tried deliberately to disobey before and was severely beaten for taking such action against him. She would skip school all together, but she didn't want to get in trouble. Though the school didn't call the parents until the student had missed a full week of school, but why risk it. The thing to do for now would be to obey until she found a way to get herself, as well as her mother, out of that hellhole.
One day as she journeyed home it began to rain. Not wanting to risk getting sick from walking home in the rain, she to the nearby plaza. Once inside, she removed her jacket.
"Here ya are miss, for your hair."
Kagome looked up from her jacket to see a man dressed in a black muscle shirt and matching pants that were made of the wind breaker material.
"Uh...thank you." She answered as she took the towel from him.
"You're lucky you didn't get soaked, it's really coming down out there." He commented as he looked outside.
"Yeah, thanks. So what is this place?"
"A center for self defense techniques. Come on, I'll show you around."
As he the led her throughout the facilities, Kagome couldn't help but notice that most of the students were females.
"You have so many female clients." She unthinkingly mentioned aloud.
"You're right. It's because most of the women here have some kind of situation at home. Mostly women who have a violent spouse will come here to train because they're tired of the treatment and want to put a stop to it."
"Oh."
Kagome stared at the training women and envied them. How she wished she could get training, if she had known of training like this she would have done it a long time ago. Sure she knew some techniques from when she took karate a couple of months prior to leaving her father, but it was nothing like this. These women weren't just training to learn self-defense tactics in case they were attacked; these women were actually living through it perhaps everyday of their lives. They were going through the same thing as she was, coming home every night, only to fear being beaten by the ones who were supposed to love them.
"How much?" Kagome turned to the man, who was caught off-guard by her sudden question.
"Well, that really depends of how long you plan to learn."
"How much can I learn in a week?"
"Just the bare essentials, enough to keep you alive if needed. But you'd have to train long and hard during the day."
"How much?"
"$100."
"Done."
