Why She Kept Her Head Down

Chapter 19: Risks To Escape

Kagome awoke the next morning, her chest bathed in the pain from Naraku's assault the night before. She

dragged herself to her feet and went to the bathroom. She looked over her wounds and took some alcohol

out of the medicine cabinet. After she finished applying the burning liquid to her skin she left her

room to see her mother. She wasn't however, expecting the sight that awaited her eyes. Her mother lay

on the bed looking bruised and tattered from an apparently recent assualt. She ran to her mother's

bedside.

"Mother! What happened!"

Her mother didn't answer though and Kagome could cry in sorrow of her mother's pain.

'I won't let this go on any longer!' She thought as she left the house.

On the way to training, Kagome passed by a store that was of interest to her. Curiousity finally

won out and she went in. It turned out the store had items that would definitely prove useful, it

was like someone wanted her to go in. And it would save her, she could feel it.

She hurried to her training and the day went on as it usually did. When the day finally ended she returned

to the place she was forced to stay in. She didn't dare call it her home, for it was no place to call

home. The clever girl had already formed a plan in her mind of how she would use her tools, she just had

no idea of when she'd be able to use them. When she arrived home however, luck was proving that it didn't

abandon her after all.

"Kagome! Get your ass down here girl!" The step father yelled up the stairs.

Kagome heard the yells of her step father and quickly turned her cd player off and took off her head

phones. Her step father and step brother always assumed that Kagome was studying when she came home from

school because not a sound came from her room, it was the only time they left her alone. So who was she to

tell them that she was simply listening to her cds, she wasn't stupid enough to ruin her only time of

peace.

"Yes?" She hurried down the staircase as to not anger her step father.

"I'll be going out for the evening, so don't go anywhere and obey your step brother.

"Of course." The wheels in her mind started turning at this sudden chance.

She turned and ran upstairs in great haste. Her step father watched Kagome retreat up the stairs and

turned to to his son.

"I want you to keep a close watch on her tonight and keep her in line." He smiled and evil smile to his

son.

"You bet." Naraku reflected the smile back to his father.

Kagome dressed quickly in black while her step father was still talking to her step brother. She put her

hood on and quickly put rings on each of her fingers, then wrapped her hands with white bandaging. She

then put on her black gloves and sneakers. She was now ready to set her plan into motion.

""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

"So you get my drift then? If you need to remind her of why she should obey then feel free to. I want

a nice partner for later tonight so have her ready for me, okay son?" The step father smirked at his

nasty thoughts.

"Yes father, she'll be ready for you by the time you get home."

The step father smiled at his son's remark and left the house to his destination. Naraku turned and

climbed the stairs to Kagome's room. Kagome heard the footsteps approaching her door and guessed that it

was Naraku coming to "educate" her once more, so she quickly grabbed the supplies she had ready on the

bed and stood behind the door. The door slowly opened and Naraku stepped through menancingly. Kagome had

anticipated that Naraku would be paying her a visit, so she took some chloroform and soaked a rag with

it. She then hid the piece in her back pocket and stood ready to attack.

"Oh Kagommmmeee...Where are you my dear sister?" He looked around the dark room, but he didn't bother

to look behing him, for if he had he would've seen the girl standing there.

"Right here dear brother!" Kagome sprang out from behind the door and drop kicked Naraku in the face.

Naraku fell to the floor with a loud thump. He laid therefor a few moments before he lifted himself off of

the floor.

"Now...that was a mistake." He charged at Kagome.

Now Kagome had seen Naraku's moves enough to know his techniques insides out and she saw where the

weaknesses laid in his attacks. So, of course she took the opportunity and kicked him hard in the stomach.

"No...that was. What's the matter Naraku? Can't you handle one little girl? Thought you were the big

brother, so why are you kneeling before me?" Kagome smiled in her victory.

She pulled him up by his hair and punched him several times on the face.

"How does it feel Naraku?" She shoved him away from her and took out a knife.

He charged at her again but she dodged the attack and slashed him across the stomach. He hissed in pain

and turned to attack again. Kagome was to fast for him now and began to slash him with the knife across

his chest.

"Remember how you cut me on my chest? Over and over the feel of a cold blade touching your skin and

slicing slowly into it. Do you feel that? It's not exactly what you did to me but it's close enough for

you to feel."

She slash him a few more times, then threw the knife under the bed. Naraku was nowing dripping blood

all over the wooden floor as he tried to counter Kagomes vigorous on going assualts. Naraku begam to slip

into unconsciousness, but Kagome grabbed him by his hair.

"Now now, who said you could to sleep on me boy? You need to pay attention!" She punched him in the

nose and he collapsed onto the floor, trying to stay awake.

That's when Kagome decided to end the fight. She took out the chloroform soaked rag and held it to his

nose. He passed out after struggling for a few moments. Kagome stuck the rag back in her pocket and began

to drag Naraku's limp form to the attic. She tied him to the wall and bound his feet together. She also

cuffed his hands and feet with handcuffs for insurance. She didn't need any surprises for the stunt she

was about to perform. Lastly she tied the chloroform soaked rag to his face, putting it directly under

his nose. Now she wouldn't have to worry about him waking up and making a bunch of noise. She pulled out

some sheets on a clothes line and hung it in front of Naraku's body so it wouldn't be visible. She then

went downstairs and pulled out the equipment she bought from the shop she had gone to earlier. She had to

work quickly if she wanted all to be ready by the time he returned. She took out the phone disrupter she

bought and set it up. Now no one could use a phone in the house, not even a cell phone. Next she shut the

power off in the house so that no one could turn on any lights. Then she pulled out a metal detector and

went all around the house to search for any hidden guns. She found several in various places around the

house and put them in other areas so her step father wouldn't be able to find any. She then went through

where she would be and made sure no objects would get in her way. When she was ready she went to the

place she decided would be her hiding place. She picked the kitchen closet as her hiding place because

she was small enough to fit beneath the last shelf. So if anyone looked they wouldn't see anything

because of the darkness of the house. After a while of waiting Kagome heard the sound of a car approaching

the house, then she heard a car door slam. The fron door could be heard opening next and she heard the

clamors of a drunken man's footsteps walking through the door.

"Kagome! Naraku! I'm home! Naraku?" He stumbled in.

He looked around and noticed how dark it was.

"Why's it so dark in here? Kagome? Where you's at girl!" He asked as he stumbled up the staircase

and looked around the house.

He looked in every room and when he found no one but a beaten mother in her bed he became enraged. He went

into Kagome's room and searched all over the room for any sign of where Kagome could be. While the drunk

man was destroying Kagome's room, Kagome emerged from her room and took her spot in the middle of the

livingroom. Her step father was about to go the next room but stopped when he caught sight of her.

"There you are girl. Where's your brother?" He swayed slightly on his feet.

"Oh he's a bit indisposed at the moment. You see, he tried to hurt again but I just wouldn't stand

for that." She smiled an evil smile as she thought of the joy she got out of her revenge.

It still wasn't over though, she still had much revenge to get for all the years of torture she and her

mother had been put through. She watched the look of confusion cross the man's face.

"W-what'd you do?"

"Oh don't worry, he's not dead...yet."

"So what? You're gonna kill us now girl? You can't get away with that you know, you'll be locked

away." He gloated as he staggered toward her.

"Self defense is not murder." She stated simply.

She went into fighting stance.

"Now come on, show me what you got."

"What! You wanna fight me now? Don't you think that'd be an unfair fight?" He smirked.

"Unfair to whom? What, you could beat me up before but now you can't fight me? Huh!" She smacked

him across the face quickly.

"I know what you're trying to do girl. But I'm not gonna get mad and fight you. When you calm down

come to my room." He tried to turn but was stopped when she hopped in front of him and began to strike

him in the face.

He finally became enraged and began to fight back. He just wasn't fast enough though in his drunk state

and while he managed to get a few hits in, he was no match for Kagome's speed and techniques that she

threw at him.

"What's the matter? Don't like it now that's it's happening to you? I thought you liked rough play!"

She continued to kick him till he was down on his knees.

Finally she knocked him out and he collapsed to the floor. She quickly checked for a pulse and when she

felt on she picked up a heavy stone cutting board and was about to smash his face in, then she hesitated.

Could she really kill someone? Sure this man deserved it with all his being, but would she be able to

live with herself knowing that she was a murderer? She turned around and thought for a moment, if only

she had known that her step father was right behind her, perhaps she wouldn't have hesitated. A lamp

crashed over her head and she fell to the floor. She felt everything spinning, but remembered something.

Rei's voice.

"You're down, he thinks he's won. And as sure as he's a coward he will try to kick you."

Kagome opened her eyes just in time to see her step father standing in between her legs preparing to

kick her. She quickly closed her legs and turned over, flipping him off of her. He fell to the floor

and she scrambled to get to her feet. She started to run upstairs to get her second knife that she had in

her draw, but just as she reached the top, she was grabbed and turned around. She swung out and punched

his jaw, then she kicked out with all her strength. Her kick connected with his stomach. Then all went

into slow motion for Kagome as she watched her step father fall down the stairs. He landed on his neck

with a sickening crack. Then all was silent. Kagome couldn't stand there and look at her dead step father

for long though, she still had to take care of the evidence and Naraku. She quickly went into her room

and took the other knife that was identical to the first that she used on Naraku and ran to the attic.

She tooked down the sheets and put them back in the exact place that she found them and looked at Naraku.

She slashed his throat quickly. He woke when she slashed his throat, gasping at the pain and slowly

died. She then took him down and put everything she used to bind him and threw them into a duffle bag. She

then dragged Naraku's body back to her room and put him in a position he would've been in if he fell.

After she restored everything quickly and disposed of the duffle bag that contained all incriminating

evidence in the lake that was behind the house, she called the police and told them what happened. Thirty

minutes later the police arrived and Kagome told them the story of how she and her mother were kidnaped

and how she was forced to defend herself when Naraku and her father tried to kill her that night. Of

course the police found no evidence of foul play on Kagome's part and declared that Naraku's and Kagome's

step father's death caused by Kagome in the name of self defense.

"You know you're very lucky Miss. Not all women survive these kinds of attacks." An officer said

to Kagome as he escorted her to the police station to give a statement.

Kagome's mother was taken to the hospital. Kagome had explained everything down at the police station

and the police offered to take Kagome back to her real home once her mother was in good enough condition

to travel. Kagome had other things on her mind though at the moment.

"Actually there's someone I need to visit tomorrow."
