Author's Note: This isn't really fanfiction, but To Kill a Mockingbird did inspire it. I like to imagine the brashen man as Bob Ewell and the Mockingbird, obviously, as poor Tom. -sniffles- Please review! I'd appreciate feedback.
The Mockingbird's Legacy
By Onyx Dawn
"I've never seen the rain
fall so heavily before;
I've never seen the darkness
consume so much before;
I've never seen it like this."
The dying song bird sings,
and he rests his head to die.
"You've never seen the rain
fall so heavily before?"
The killer waits and smiles,
the brazen face of humanity.
He turns away and leaves;
he has no care:
no sight.
The song bird died quickly,
and left no legacy behind.
The man became successful,
thought by all unkind.
The song bird had no friends;
no shoulder to cry on.
He complained not at all
when the man slew his soul.
He only said what he must.
"I've never seen the rain
fall so heavily before;
I've never seen the darkness
consume so much before;
I've never seen it like this."
