The thin curtain fluttered as a light breeze blew, then settled back into place, drawn to the sides of the window.
A small blonde girl sat, blue eyes blinking as she looked at the dust swirling in the sunlight that streamed through when the curtain was blown.
Anyone who cared to look closer would see that the girl wasn't really looking at the sunlight. Her eyes were glossy and unfocused as if she were deep in thought.
Bubbles blinked once, then looked down at her drawing. Her box of crayons sat there still unopened.
She didn't even want to draw or color anymore.
Tears formed in the corners of her eyes as she looked up again and she whispered a small 'I miss you...'
No one replied.
She knew no one would, but... She sighed.
It refused to sink in. She couldn't believe it had happened that day, not even when she watched her sister die.
The Proffesor had sped up in his car and found the girls crying. At first, he looked hopeful, but then noticed one was missing. He took them home, trying to explain to them what had happened; Bubbles hadn't understood.
Bubbles sensed someone close. She looked up.
She saw a little girl her age floating, one leg stretched out as descended to land neatly on the floor. She was dressed in the same way all the Powerpuffs did, but Bubbles did not recognize her.
Bubbles blinked. 'Wh-who... are you?'
The girl just smiled at her.
Bubbles slowly got up, confusion evident on her face. 'Are you a new Powerpuff?'
The girl shook her head.
'Then who are you?' Bubbles blinked.
'You already know me...' the girl walked over to Bubbles, her ponytail swinging from side to side as she walked.
Bubbles focused for a minute, then backed away, eyes wide. 'C-c... could it be... B-'
The girl smiled as Bubbles became speechless, a large smile on her face.
She ran to hug her sister.
'Oh, this is so great! Now with you back-'
The other girl stopped Bubbles with a serious look. Bubbles blinked.
'... What is it?'
'I can't stay.'
'But...' Bubbles was shocked. 'But why! Don't you love us anymore...?'
'I do but... I have to go,' the girl sighed. 'I wasn't mean to be, you know that... if I stay, the same thing will happen all over again.'
Bubbles looked down. '... But I missed you...'
'And I missed you too,' the girl smiled again. 'But I'm better off now. See? You didn't even recognize me!'
She giggled, Bubbles smiling. 'Yeah...'
Bubbles then noticed that she was glowing. 'Wah!'
'What?'
She backed away. 'Look! You're... all sparkly and stuff!'
'Oh... guess it's time for me to go...'
The two girls embraced.
'I love you, Bubbles.'
'I love you too... Bunny...'
And with that, she dissapeared, leaving Bubbles alone. Bubbles was saddened, but not as much as before. She sat down, hugging Octi when she heard a soft thump from behind her.
Whirling around, she blinked, then started laughing.
It had been the sound of Blossom's Chinese book slipping from a surprised Blossom's hand and hitting the floor. The Proffesor and the girls had come to check up on Bubbles as she had been unusually quiet lately and wanted to cheer her up.
Bubbles finally stopped laughing and opened her box of crayons, drawing something as she hummed. She then flew up to the Proffesor and her sisters, a somewhat sad smile on her face as she held up a drawing of a purple-clad brown haired Powerpuff Girl flying over a rainbow, with the word 'free' scribbled under it.
