Twilight
The last rays from the sun illuminated the ocean water. The light pinks and yellows were peaking out from under a dark blue cloud. Away from the sun, darkness had fallen, casting the area into two different shades of blue—the dark sky and the darker ocean, meeting at the horizon.
The two girls leaned comfortably against the railing as they watched the sun disappear. One girl had platinum blond hair, with jeans and a light sweatshirt on, and the other had dirtier blond hair, with just a tank top and a mid-length skirt. They were standing close to each other, and if one looked closely, one could see their hands intertwined on the rail. The only sound between them was the sound of the waves, moving calmly yet steadily yards beneath them. For a moment, their surroundings and that sound were the only things in their mind.
Marissa's grasp on Alex's hand tightened as she shivered in a strong gust of wind. Alex was broken from her reverie to look worriedly at her. "Are you cold?" she asked, starting to take off her sweatshirt.
"No! I'm fine," Marissa said, holding up a hand to stop her actions. There was a twinkle in her eye when she suggested, "Though if you're closer to me I'd be warmer."
Alex chuckled softly as she wrapped an arm around Marissa's body and pulled her close. The body heat quickly warmed both of them. With the crisis averted, the couple gazed back out to the sea to listen to the soft waves of the water. As Alex let the ocean waves lull her, she regarded her surroundings and said, "I might have lived here all my life," Alex began, "But I've never seen those shades of blue before. They're like… the perfect blue."
"The perfect blue?" Marissa asked, "I didn't know such a thing existed."
"I don't know either," Alex admitted, "But if it did, don't you think it would be that?"
"Yeah, I think it would be," Marissa said.
There was a pause, before Alex spoke, "I might have lived here all my life," she repeated, "But I have never gotten used to this beauty."
"Me neither," Marissa added, "It's like… every time I see it, I'm awestruck, even though I've seen it before."
Alex turned her head from the ocean to look at Marissa. She lifted her free hand to caress Marissa's cheek, and Marissa turned to gaze into her eyes. "It's kind of like you."
Marissa visibly melted at the words, and a bright flush filled her cheeks. She raised her free hand to caress Alex's cheek. "You too, Alex," she whispered, not feeling eloquent but needing to let Alex know, "Even more so."
A slight pink warmed Alex's cheeks, before the two leaned in and kissed, channeling all their love into that action, and throwing their cares into the wind. They kissed into the night, seeing the perfect blue behind their eyes and hearing the sound of the waves.
