Masculine Beauty
Girlish. Myers was girlish. Hellboy wondered why he hadn't noticed until now.
High, flustered cheekbones. Slightly pouty lips in a delectable shade of pink. Big fawnish eyes.
Speaking of that, Myers was looking up at him with those eyes right now. Hellboy made a slight grunt to show that he was listening. John must've stared at Hellboy a bit too long because he shyly averted his eyes before looking up at him through dark lashes.
He always did that when he thought that he had stared at Hellboy too long or too intensely. Myers had done it the first time they met, when he had stared too long at Hellboy's horns. Hellboy hadn't thought much of it then, but it was actually quite endearing now that Myers had been around awhile.
Hellboy suddenly shifted forward, startling John a little. It took only a fraction of a second for John to recover and get back on topic, whatever that was. What were they talking about again? Hairless cats or Mannings or ...something. It was really all the same anyway.
Actually, now that he really looked Myers was even slightly more girlish looking then Liz. Not that Liz wasn't beautiful, she was gorgeous. At least Hellboy thought so and he wasn't about to let anyone tell him different.
Still...Myers was more...delicate then Liz. Liz was tough, she had character. Myers was...slight - for a man. John was taller then Liz after all, just not as...strong. His features were less...sharp? Something like that.
"Hey Myers."
"uh..yeah?"
John looked a little confused. After all, Hellboy had just cut him off in the middle of a sentence.
"You look like a girl."
"wh-what!"
Flustered shock, just what Hellboy should have expected. Hellboy waited for John to respond.
"What do you mean girl?"
"Just what I said Boyscout, girl. You look like a girl."
"I-I do not!"
"Just saying is all."
"Well take it back!"
"I'm not gonna take it back. The day I take it back is the day you look like a man."
"Well then I guess today is that day because guess what? I look like a man because I am a man!"
"Damn Myers, what you yelling about? It's not my fault that even Liz is more masculine then you."
He had expected Myers to retaliate. Instead John just stood there with a bright blush on his cheekbones, lips pressed in an effort not to explode.
"Come on Myers, I didn't mean it as an insult."
"Then take it back."
It was such a quiet and childish sounding answer that for moment Hellboy had wondered who had spoken.
"I didn't think my insignificant observations could get you this riled."
Hellboy waited. Myers didn't say anything.
"Fine, if that's the way you want it. I'm sorry that I told you how you looked."
Myers flushed deeply and Hellboy could only stare at him for a moment.
"and, uh...you don't look like a girl. At all. You are so masculine that you threaten my masculinity. You even threaten Abe's masculinity. And father's."
Myers didn't say anything, just continued to wait with one eyebrow raised.
"and..uh...Liz's masculinity?"
"Red! That's not fair!"
"What? Isn't that what you wanted me to say?"
"You compared my masculinity to a demon's, a fish-man's, a deceased man's and a girl's!"
"Yeah, so?"
"Well - what about any normal men? Like...I don't know, another agent or something."
Hellboy chuckled.
"Come on Myers, give me a break, okay?"
John eyed him suspiciously for a few seconds.
"Fine. I accept your apology."
A long time afterwards Liz would still be wondering why Hellboy was hailing Myers as 'the epitome of masculine beauty' - in a mocking voice of course. But she already knew why Myers always blushed.
