Two bodies swayed together in a warm breeze. One, with hair like waves of golden silk and breathtaking grace in her steps, the other with his gentle masculinity and a smile to rival the light of the sun. She, in all her radiance and yards of pale yellow fabric, pressed so closely to him, with his common clothes and common demeanor, their joined hands resting against the plain cloth of his worn and weathered shirt.

A cold, black demon gripped her, his unseen hand forever at her arm. He sought to part her from her beloved, and this time there would be no fighting back. His dark wings were spread wide, casting a shadow over her heart as he assumed his mighty pose of victory.

He had said he was taking her home, but he did not seem to know that her home was in the arms of the man whose heart now beat beneath her hand.

She rested her lips against his shoulder and breathed him in, enjoying his familiar scent while she still could. This would be the last time she ever saw her home. He leaned close to her ear but did not speak. She did not need his voice to tell her what she already knew. The music of his heart echoed in her, the notes of her own melody entwined with his song. Their harmony flowed between them like the gentle waves of the sea, peaceful and soothing and speaking only three words.

I love you.

Soon her graceful steps would carry her away, onto the wicked vessel that would bear her the distance sufficient to separate her from her dearest love. And she would never be home again.

But for now she was safe. She was with him and he was beautiful, and the sun smiled on them and the song of their love resonated in their hearts. And their bodies swayed together in the breeze…
