The Revelation
Chapter One: Truth
Alex Hawkins sit on the bed, his bedroom was completely dark. He needed to think, to understand those fatidical words he heard.
His father was gay.
Virgil Hawkins, Static Shock, superhero, friend... his own father was one of those geeks. Everything made sense. That was the reason that destroyed his family, nine years ago.
"Honey, your daddy and I don't love each other anymore... but we love you..." Daisy Hawkins said, her face was still wet
"Mum... I'll behave, I promise! Please, don't separate... Susan's parents divorced and she's always crying, I don't wanna end like her... I'll behave!"
His mother smiled sadly, while her hand touched his cheek "Don't blame yourself, Alex. Virgil and I... need some time. Your father will move, but you'll spend a week with him and a week with me. You won't lose your father or me"
"Please!" the boy cried
During nine years, Alex wondered over and over again. The teenager made over 200 theories, no one of them included the word gay. Why didn't they just tell him the truth? Why didn't they tell him: "Honey, your father is a queer" or "I can't have sex with your father 'coz only Richie can turn him on"? But nooo, her mother covered all with that shit of "we don't love each other"... what does that suppose to mean? All this time he was travelling from a home to another, trying to swallow his tears... he suffered. Alex tried to unite them, his plans didn't work. Each failure depressed him even more. It took him years to accept the divorce. Years of pain, of recriminations, of psychotherapy...
And now this
His bedroom was completely frozen. Alex's superpowers activated while he was submerged in his thoughts. That was just comical, his frozen bedroom contrasting with the heat of his rage. He knew his father was standing in the corridor, silent. What in the hell was he waiting for? That a regretful Alex hug him, saying he was sorry? He wasn't sorry at all... and if Virgil "queen of queers" Hawkins thinks Alex was coarse, he should realize how much he hurt him with such a revelation.
All because of Tom and his gay feelings for Alex. The younger Hawking would never suspect that Tom's jokes, his taps on the shoulder, his entire friendship was disguising the fact Tom was hot with him. And when Alex commented the incident to his father, besides his own opinion about gays... WHAM!
A downcast Virgil confesses
"But how... could you... are you joking?"
"I love Richie, Alex..."
"Does he know this?"
"No"
"When... since when?"
A fucking silence answered his question
"Since when? Dad! Tell me! I am sick of all the secrets! TELL ME!"
"Nine years ago..."
