Summary/Set: first part of season 3. Phoebe surprises Cole by turning up at one of his court hearings.

Pairing: Cole/Phoebe.

Phoebe contemplated what she should do during her free period at Uni. Going home would've taken her too long, so she started off towards the library at first, but then she remembered how rude she was on the phone to Cole the day before. Of course, they were in the middle of a demonic emergency again, but that was one reason she couldn't tell him. Life was complicated if she wanted to go out with the handsome lawyer, but she was willing to make it as likely as possible, so she intended to say sorry in person. She went up to Cole's office, and they told her in what court room can she find him. He was talking to a witness when she entered, banging the door by mistake. Everybody looked towards her, including the judge and Cole, so she tiptoed her way to the closest bench and sat down. Cole smiled at her, then went back to his table and chaotically started to look over his files.

"Mr. Turner!" The judge called him, "are you gonna continue?"

"I'm sorry, you honour…I got the next question…uh, wait a minute…just that disturbance with the door…here…now, Mr. Barkley, were you there when your photo was taken?"

"I would think so," the witness shook her head, while the whole table of the defence giggled.

"Silence!" The judge ordered, "if you had any questions that make sense Mr. Turner…"

"Sure. Sorry," Cole blushed, and walked back to the witness stand, "you were there until the time you went away, right?"

"Aha," the witness smiled himself while Cole went even more red.

"Can you describe the person who took your photo?"

"He was about average stature and had a beard."

"Was this male or female?"

"Khm," the judge intercepted, "if you wouldn't be one of our best lawyers in the state, I would send you to a psychiatric consult. Now go and do whatever you have to do with that lady you continue looking at in the back. Court re adjourned in half an hour. I suggest you come back to your senses by then."

"I'm so sorry," Phoebe stood up to meet an embarassed Cole, constraining not to titter herself at his interrogation technique, "I didn't mean to confuse you."

"Doesn't matter. It's my fault. You kinda confuse me."

"Why?"

"I don't know. Feels like playing with fire."

"We could cool that down, Cole. I was going to invite you out for dinner. I'm possible too skint to pay, but…"

"That will be fine, Ms. Halliwell. I'll come and pick you up at eight?"

"Certainly," Phoebe started towards the door, "eh…good luck with the witness…you'll have to tell me how it went," she smiled mischievously and waved him good bye, having had no doubt left in her mind that this man was in fact in love with her for sure and there was no rudeness on her part that could derail him from that.

The End.
