All for Nothing
Christine was once again caught in the trap that Erik's voice seemed to set for her.
"Passarino, go away for the trap is set and waits for it's prey." At the first utterance, she 'knew' that it wasn't Piangi who sang those words, and her fear abated as he sang his lines. She listened to his words, lost in a daze. It actually took her a moment to realize that it was her turn to sing.
"You have brought me, to that moment when words run dry, to that moment when speech disappears into silence… silence… " She glanced up at Raoul, and watched him look over at Andre and Firmin. However, she was lost in the sensation of the lyrics, the sensation of Erik's eyes roaming her body, and could not comprehend the fact that they were calling the police. "So second thoughts… I've decided… decided…" She looked at Erik's waiting form, and realized, in a way… she had.
"Past the point of no return! No going back now, our passion play has now at last begun."
As they made their way up the winding steps, she felt it. Something was terribly wrong with what she was doing…
"The bridge is crossed so stand and watch it burn." She clasped to his waist as if it were the only anchor in a sea of burning fire. She couldn't remember what it was that she now wanted desperately to avoid. Wrapped in Erik's arms, held against his heaving chest, she could not think.
"Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime." Raoul had sang this to her. Raoul… what would he be doing now?
"Lead me save me from my solitude." One love, one life time… it wouldn't be so bad, now would it. How could one lifetime of being held in his arms like this be bad?
"Say you'll want me with you here beside you…" Forever… she wanted him with her forever. She opened her eyes slightly, and saw what had been pounding at the back of her mind. Men, with guns, pointed at Erik!
"Anywhere you go, let me go too!" He was so caught up in the words that he wasn't paying attention! She had to stop him. He couldn't be killed. She loved him.
"Christine! That's all I ask of-" a thousand options flew through her head, but she only knew one that would make him run, instead of staying and fighting. She could only do one thing to save the man she loved, the one standing in front of her singing with all of the compassion she could ever desire.
She ran her hand up his jaw, and then ripped off his mask. She saw the hurt shoot through his eyes and felt her heart shatter. She hadn't meant to hurt him, but it was the only way. She pleaded with her eyes that he understood.
He kicked open a trap door, loosened the chandelier, and dropped with her into a hole.
"Down once more to the dungeon of my black despair! Down we plunge towards the prison of my mind!" Oh god, she thought. Erik forgive me please forgive me. I did it all for you and all for nothing… nothing if the pain of this turns you against me… All for nothing…
