Dancing in the Rain

Luke had just closed his diner and he and Lorelai had were walking home to her house for a night movies (although they both knew that neither one of them would actually be watching).

They were almost at her house when it began to rain. It started as a drizzle, but within minutes it was pouring.

Luke immediately ran for shelter under Lorelai's porch. However, Lorelai remained in the downpour with her arms open and her head tilted up to the sky.

Luke starred at her in confusion. "Lorelai, what are you doing?" he called to her. "Come under here where it's dry"

But Lorelai ignored him as she began to dance around in the rain, splashing through the puddles and twirling around with her arms outstretched and a smile on her face. Seeing her joy, Luke couldn't help but smile. This was why he loved her.

Lorelai turned to him and called, "Come on Luke, dance with me." He responded with a look that said, "Yeah right." So she put on her best pout, one she knew he couldn't resist and whined, "Pleeeeaase Luke? It'll be fun."

Luke sighed and reluctantly stepped into the wall of water that lay before him. He prepared himself for the chilling water that was sure to soak him. But as the cool water washed over him, he began to relax. It felt oddly refreshing. He embraced this new sensation as he ran toward Lorelai, bounding through puddles along the way.

Once he reached her, he took her hands in his and together, they spun around until the momentum they had gathered threw them to the ground, where they collapsed in laughter.

After their laughter died down, they sat there in comfortable silence, starring longingly into each other's eyes. And at that moment, the fact that they were soaked to the bone in rain, or that their clothes were ruined from the muddy water, or that they sitting in the middle of Stars Hollow looking like lunatics mattered to either of them. All that mattered was that they were here in the rain, together.

Finally, Lorelai broke the silence by exclaiming, "I love the rain!" Luke smiled and responded, "Me to." He paused for a moment before continuing bravely, "But not as much as I love you."

Lorelai's breath caught in her throat as a smile slowly began to spread across her face. She leaned into him, kissing him passionately on his lips. A minute later, she pulled away slowly, a huge smile spread across her face. "I love you too, Luke," she whispered as tears of welling up in her eyes.

And with that, they stood up and walked hand-in-hand back to Lorelai's house as the rain fell around them.
