Author's
Notes: This is the first Atlantis fiction I've written. Much, much
thanks to the amazing Teza for for being my beta reader.
Ancient Weir's voice still echoed in his head: Rodney McKay, dying so the others could escape; Rodney, the infuriating, stubborn egotistical, brilliant scientist who he had dismissed at their first meeting as 'just another scientist,' except that he kept surprising them: kept fighting with them, kept saving their lives. Finding out that brilliance had gone out forever because of one desperate heroic act was oddly unsettling (John without Rodney?), but the heroic part didn't surprise John Sheppard anymore.
Ancient Weir's voice replayed the same words in his mind: John Sheppard, dying trying to save the survivors of an expedition gone wrong; John, the Air Force fly-boy, the freak find in Antarctica, the stubborn, brilliant officer who he had dismissed at their first meeting as 'just another grunt,' except that he kept surprising them: kept fighting for them, kept saving their lives. Finding out that heroism had gone out forever because of one brilliant heroic act was oddly unsettling (Rodney without John?), but the brilliant part didn't surprise Rodney McKay anymore.
