Take It Back
A/N : I really wanted a happy ending for the two, since I am a fan of them. But because of my never ending creative circuit that I call my brain, I originally had another ending. It's a sad ending, so if you don't like sad endings, do not read it! It starts off with the original ending.
"Thank you Mokuba." Smiling to myself, I shut the door.
………………………………...
Mokuba sat there, holding onto his brother's hand. It had been several minutes since the orb he had convinced his brother was the time machine had been activated. Mokuba watched as Seto's expression became blank, and then changed each minute. His eyes were closed, looking as if he was in deep sleep. Being alone, Mokuba released all of the despair he had been feeling as he cried onto the hospital bed. It hurt so much, to make his brother happy but to lose him at the same time. Something so precious. . . Could destroy you.
As his sobs began to lessen, the doctor entered the room. He placed a hand on Mokuba's shoulder, as he spoke to him gently. "Mister Kaiba, I presume your idea has worked."
"Not yet… I know, but not for sure." Mokuba responded as he took in his brother's final state. He had hated to watch Seto waste away on the hospital bed, as well as hate himself for the things he had done. Mokuba wanted more than anything to give his brother the happiness that was so desperately needed by him. He couldn't tell him that he had visited Joey already and seen him with his family. He had seemed happy, but Mokuba didn't tell him about Seto's state. Even if he had loved his brother it was too late. Not even time would be able to heal his wounds. Mokuba watched as Seto's heart rate slowed, the screen's green glow sardonic.
He knew the only way he could help Seto was to let him die. To let him die without him knowing, to lie to the one person he loved the most. There was no hope for him, and the doctors had told Mokuba that Seto would be dead within a few weeks. He would die slowly, a horrible lonely and painful death. So being a Kaiba, he went to work quickly, on what could save Seto from this fate. The orb was no time machine, but it had a virtual reality effect. It was a remarkable invention and Seto would have been proud. Mokuba knew what Seto's mind would do, for his brother did have a brilliant mind.
He gripped Seto's hand tightly as he sniffled and wiped his tears away. He saw Seto smile, a genuine smile in this tragic state. He even heard him whisper something like 'thank you.'
"You're welcome." Mokuba replied, his throat tight with fresh hot tears that threatened to run down his cheeks. Leaning over, he kissed Seto on the forehead, a single tear breaking on his brother's pale cheek. Letting out a sob, he let go of Seto's hand and signaled to the doctor. He would give Seto an injection, the final step in an unknowing death. As the Doctor picked up the needle and headed towards Seto's iv, Mokuba shut his eyes and turned around. Seto was strong, but Mokuba couldn't possible match his brother's strength. He couldn't possible watch his brother die, he loved him too much. It hurt to let go of the one person he loved, to save him. The tears unleashed themselves, waves rolling down his sharp cheeks as he gripped onto the doorframe. He couldn't breathe, the weakness of needing his big brother, his niisama, was raining down upon him. His eyes shot open when he heard the constant beeping of the heart rate machine. He forced himself to shut the door behind him, as he tasted the bitterness of loss.
"Goodbye Seto."
The other End
