It was raining and no light could penetrate the thick mass of clouds swirling above them. The pair traveled alone.
Miroku glanced over at Kagome briefly as she kicked a few stones on the path, managing to move the umbrella thing she was carrying so that a few drops spattered his robes. Apparently she didn't notice.
"Think Inuyasha and Sango are okay?" Kagome asked, looking at him out of the corner of her eyes.
Miroku flinched visibly, why did she always have to mention them? Surely she could appreciate any time they had alone together?
"I'm sure they're fine, Kagome."
"You don't think they will be coming back soon?"
Miroku wondered why the hell he liked her when she asked so many questions.
"No." he answered curtly, letting out a sigh.
Kagome's delectable little mouth formed a small 'o'.
A small hand slipped into his and Miroku turned to her startled. Her small hand seemed so fragile. He could feel the soft pull against his skin and thought for a moment to pull away, but instead he wrapped his fingers around hers.
A tiny ray of light broke though the clouds.
"I was just making sure." Kagome whispered, blushing slightly.
Miroku turned his gaze to the path ahead of them, dark and foreboding as trees had engulfed the visible ways.
"You sure you want to go that way?" he asked her softly; finding it strange that he thought of his kazanna at that precise moment.
She nodded and pulled him forwards into the darkness.
