The battle had been one of the worst they had ever been in. But he looked at her and smiled; he loved watching her fight, she moved so easily as if it was easier then breathing for her. He watched as she went for the kill, her sword thrusting forward as the demons claws slashed at her. He saw her fall as the demon fell dead. He ran to her and pulled her into his arms.
"Pet, hey." He whispered as he pressed his hand on the gaping wound on her stomach.
"Is it bad?" she gasped as she tried her best to focus on the blue eyes that looked down at her. He looked at the amount of blood that she had lost in such a short time; the wound was deep and he could hear that her heart was slowing. She was dying.
"It's a scratch pet. You'll be fine." He lied as he held her closer to him now trying not to see the pain that filled his eyes. He ran his free hand over her face trying to smile.
"I'm dying amn't I Spike?" she gasped softly. Tears fell softly down his cheeks. This wasn't her time, she should have the chance to grow old; train the slayer army. Even one day have her own family, kiddies and all. She wasn't supposed die in the arms of a vampire in some cave hidden in the French Alps.
"No don't talk rubbish pet. You'll be back to pissing me off in no time." he said trying to smiled but he couldn't.
"I can't die yet. There is so much I haven't told you." She whispered trying to put her hand on his cheek but she was so weak that she couldn't lift her hand.
"Not now pet keep quite keep your energy, Xander will be here soon he'll bring help."
"Not in time though." Her breathing short and painful. He didn't care now; he let her see him cry.
"Spike. I love you." She gasped.
"I know love. Buffy can you tell me again when we get you home." He whispered as he kissed her forehead as he felt her take her last breath.
"Just hold on pet." He cried as he cradled her to him.
Hours later Xander found Spike still holding her body; still pressing on the wound to stop the now dried blood.
"She'd gone." Xander whispered as he put his hand on the mourning vampires shoulder.
