Prologue
Running a hand through her brunette tresses, Hermione Granger padded down Diagon Alley in search of three certain people. She sighed as the mist grew heavy and the streets barely visible. The air was getting dense and colder by the minute. She gripped her robe tightly and moved on through the mist with difficulty which made her slow down, only more.
She sighed in relief when she reached their desired meeting place. She looked around for a while and smiled sadly knowing that no place was safe anymore and muggles and wizards alike were in more danger, especially muggles, who have no idea of the lurking terror that will be upon them whether innocent or not. Out of the corner of her eye, she took a quick glance somewhere hoping they were there. The brunette huffed in disappointed at the sight that greeted her; an empty bench.
'Where could they have gone?' She was just about to turn around and search on the intersecting street, when a pair of arms was swiftly placed around her neck.
She screamed in confusion and her hand automatically moved to the tip of her wand, but this did not calm her one bit as her fingers kept moving to and fro from the wand, (for if it was a death eater, she would have no chance) ready to hex at the opportunity there was. A deep mischievous voice reached her ear, "Got you." and so she whirled around.
"Ron!" Meeting the redhead's playful eyes, she hissed and hit his arm. She shot a glare at Ron's direction but to his comfort, he didn't see it.
He laughed in reply as their two other companions came out from their hiding place behind the oak tree near the bench.
"Oh 'Mione, Ron was just playing…" A soft yet playful voice said, the tone was teasing and Hermione was determined not to laugh along with them. She was almost ready to hex them, knowing they could have been pretty badly hurt because of the trick they did.
"Well, I thought he was some kidnapper so you can't blame me either!" She answered as she met the knowing emerald eyes of her long-time friend, Katherine Moon.
The girl smiled as she noted the indifferent yet good-natured tone in her friend's voice. 'Oh Hermione, I know you're glad to see them. After all, they are your best friends and you practically spent the whole summer with me.'
"Mione, you do know that Ron always does this when we meet up." Before she could say just that, the girl smiled as another boy stepped up from behind her. His hair, unruly as ever was left to cover his eyes.
Harry Potter chuckled in amusement, placing a hand on Hermione's shoulder. She simply stared back, her façade slowly falling off as a wave of laughter erupted from the four. She was back with everyone and Harry was looking happy and enjoying himself at the moment with no sign of baggy eyes; instead, emerald orbs looked back at her with warmth. She was glad for she knew this wasn't forever, but she would pay greatly to have this moment relived.
This is their last year.
It would be like any year they thought, except they didn't realize that this was just the beginning of the most baffling part of their lives.
