Genre: Prequel.

Summary: Just a little blurb from Don's baseball playing days.

A/N: We don't know for sure where Don went to college. I know some writers have used UCLA I used Cal State Fullerton just because it fits better with what I know about the event in question. Well that and I can't see Don at the University of Southern California or Long Beach State.

Rosenblatt Stadium

Omaha, NE

A Monday in June

Don stood on first base trying to concentrate on what he needed to do to steal 2nd rather than how oppressive the heat was. It was only supposed to be in the low 90's but the humidity made it feel like it was over 100.

The pitcher went into his wind up and Don watched him to see if he could get a jump. Next time Don had a chance to think he was brushing dirt of f his uniform.

Don settled in at second and focused on the game. If he could just score things would be tied. Don didn't want this to be two games and out year considering the fact his parents and Charlie were in the audience.

They'd been here for the opening ceremonies and the first game but since Charlie was the one that pushed for the trip out here, he really wanted the team to have a good run at the series.

Don had been stunned when his little brother wanted to take a break from school to come watch him play ball. Charlie said he could do math anytime he wanted to see his brother in the World Series.

Crack

The ball rocketed of the bat headed to right center. Don watched and waited. Sure enough, he was able to tag up and slide into third. Now if he could just get home before the third and final out of the game.

Five fastballs later, it was over. Cal State Fullerton was out series. Don and his teammates shook the other team's hands and headed for the locker room.

Thirty minutes later Don had showered, changed, and headed off to find his family. Don was feeling depressed he'd hoped to make it further in the series and make his little brother proud of him.

"Don!" Charlie wrapped Don up in a hug.

"You were great Don! I bet if that guy hadn't struck out you'd have scored for sure. I bet you could have even stolen home!"

"Thanks Buddy." Don was feeling better already.

The End

A/N2: For those of you that don't know, the College World Series is played every June at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha NE. There are eight teams in two brackets and it's a double elimination tournament. Being a native of the area, I plan my life during Series time around staying away from Stadium. While the teams change, there are three California teams that seem to make the trip every year. USC, Cal-State Fullerton, and Long Beach State. I can't say for sure Cal-State Fullerton played in any of the series during the period in question but I know they didn't win any of the series during that time so I figured it didn't matter.
