Melodic Oracle of Time
The Weaver of Time
The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills, but who spins the Threads on the Wheel?
To keep the Light separate from the Shadow which it casts, must not something exist to be the border? To keep the balance on the Wheel of Time, must not someone keep the Shadow and the Light from reaching the top, therefore destroying the Wheel?
One more powerful then the Dark One and the Creator together so as to push them off the Wheel? What if this force could touch the world in a more complete way then the Dark One or the Creator? Could radically alter the fate of all? Pray such a force does not exist, for if it were to touch the world, it return all to oblivion, without Light or Darkness, but only Emptiness. Pray for the Dark One to rule the world before this Weaver touches it.
Moiraine embraced saidar and warded the room against eavesdroppers, and settled down in her seat alongside Lan, about to listen to Erimia Sedai, the leader of the Blues eyes-and-ears network. Erimia hadn't told her much, but had said that they needed a powerful sister straight away, and since most of the most powerful Blue sisters were in Tear, examining and studying the trials of some of the Highlords accused of treason and rebellion with one of their allied countries.
"Now, Moiraine," began Erimia, "We've received reports of a man in a small village just southwest of Tear, called Beralta, who the people tried to stone to death,"
Moiraine cut in at this point, " What was he stoned to death for?", not questioning the strangeness of this, as she knew that Erimia would get to the point quickly.
"Supposedly, for channelling," Moiraine stiffened for a few seconds, which Erimia caught, "Don't worry, knowing those superstitious villagers over near Tear, it was probably just a scapegoat for a few miscarriages and mysterious deaths. But the thing is, when they tried to stone him to death, he wouldn't die. After that, they tried hanging him, burning him, beheading him, but nothing would pierce his skin."
Moiraine's interest was aroused at this point.
"Who is he?"
"That's the thing, Moiraine. He just suddenly appeared out of nowhere, no family or friends, and just stumbled around the village. Since you have specifically asked for strange cases involving men, and you're the only powerful sister left to pursue this type of case, we're sending you and your Warder to investigate. We don't think the other Ajahs know about this case yet, else the Reds would have jumped at the chance to still some poor man."
Moiraine felt something shift at that moment. She couldn't tell if it was inside herself or in the air or in her Warding, but something changed. Meanwhile, far away, an awareness rose to consciousness, stirred and awakened. It was the shift in the Pattern of Ages, and the earth itself groaned at its awakening.
Please review, I promise the next chapter will be longer!
