Title: Can you stomach it?

Summary: Izzie and Cristina talk about surgery on the way to lunch
Disclaimer: I do not own Grey's Anatomy

Izzie bit her lip as she walked out of the operating room. She'd finally gotten to scrub-in for a surgery worth being a part of. Not that there were surgeries that were unimportant but, this was a surgery that the other interns wanted to scrub-in for as well. That's what made it special.

Doing a surgery at SGH was kind of like performing. Not only because of the intricacy each procedure, but also because of the viewing room that allowed other interns and surgeons to watch what was going on as well. It was a little awkward to have so many eyes watching you. The last thing you needed in the middle of the operation was more stress.

Still, she was pretty pleased with herself. Operating was a far cry from the trailer park life she used to have.

Izzie almost ran into Cristina head on as she walked back towards the lab to pick up some lab results on some blood work she'd dropped off earlier that day.

Cristina gave Izzie a once over with her eyebrow raised. "You just got out of an eight hour surgery and you're going to get lab results."

Izzie rolled her eyes and snorted. "It's not like the life of a doctor is an easy one."

"Tell me about it," Cristina said with a sigh. "Nothing ever stops moving. How long are you going to take with the lab results?"

Izzie bit her lip and tried to estimate, "Ummmm, fifteen minutes?" The longer she was around Bailey, the greater her chances were of getting put to work on something else. "Why?"

"Well, seeing as you look like you're about to pass out, I thought I'd haul you down to the cafeteria to stuff you full of edibles." It is almost afternoon break time and there is no way you're going to be able to make it through the rest of the day on whatever is in the vending machine. "My lunch got the beat-down today because another patient came in as Meredith, George and Alex were heading down. I could try to convince Bailey to let us go have something now."

"You have a point," Izzie agreed. "The last thing Bailey needs is us collapsing on her. That would really help the cause."

"Oh, I'm quite sure the two of you dead on the floor would make a fine sight," said Bailey as she walked towards the pair. "Yang you never got any lunch. Neither did Stevens."

"Oh I just love it when they think it's their own idea," Cristina thought.

Izzie protested, "But I have to…"

"You do not have to do anything Dr. Stevens. If you have to do something, then I tell you to do it. If it's about that lab work, I'm sure it can wait another half-hour. The case was a routine one." Bailey observed as she began to walk towards Dr. Shepherd who appeared to be having a conversation with George.

Cristina leaned up against the wall casually as she watched Bailey grow farther away. "How did your latest experience wielding the scalpel go?" Cristina would never tell the other girl how jealous she was of that surgery but, if you couldn't come out and say something, it was always fun to beat around the bush.

"Well, I'd say it turned out well," Izzie said breezily, knowing exactly how insane she was driving Cristina. "I mean, Dr. Burke is quite talented so, I was lucky to have the chance." Izzie stretched out every word and made it snap.

"You're evil Izzie Stevens," Cristina said with a snort. "Torturing other interns with snatchets of your grandiose endeavors."

Izzie rolled her eyes with mock annoyance. "I suppose I could tell you more at lunch if you don't have a weak stomach."

"Me? Weak? I'm not weak, you're weak." Cristina said with a laugh.

"Then lead the way to food my friend," Izzie said with a laugh.
