CHAPTER ONE
Laura Roslin Opened her eyes stretched her arms above her head and looked to her left. She missed him. She missed his touch, his smell, and most of all his sweet voice. It had been three weeks and it felt like a lifetime since they had held each other.
Doctor Cottle's treatment had worked. The cancer, whilst not completely cured was stopped in its tracks. The operation had gone well the tumour was removed and if the injections held she was unlikely to be troubled by it again.
Lee had been there for her before the operation. He had held her hand whispered "I love you" in her ear despite the fact that she had told him she was ending their relationship. She said she didn't love him that it was only sex.
Laura didn't expect to survive the operation let alone be around for the subsequent treatments. She had surprised even herself by making it as far as she had.
Being injected with Cylon Hybrid DNA was unpalatable to her but she had accepted it. She wanted so desperately to live.
Roslin flipped her legs over the side of the bed, she wished she could take back all that she had said to her Captain Apollo, but realised she couldn't. Laura had been harsh in the extreme she needed him to believe her words. She had stated them with as much conviction as she could muster up and he believed her. It was all a lie. She loved him more than she had words to express and thus never did. She loved his cheeky grin when he had gotten one over on her or anyone for that matter. She loved putting her hands through his tossed hair first thing in the morning. In fact there wasn't a single thing about the man she didn't love. It ripped her apart having to lie to him but in her universe she was dying. Her future bleak, the journey would be a dark one and she didn't want him coming along. As she picked up her diary and flicked through its contents she came to the startling realization that Lee was the one and only man she had ever allowed herself to just be with. With him she wasn't the president, or the secretary of education, she was just Laura the woman.
