Castle in the Sky

Yes, it is a new fic. D Since I am into Tomoyo/Kurogane now, I only feel like writing that now. My interest has ceased in almost every other pairing or series, but I'm still trying to finish a new chapter of Fairy Tales. I won't abandon it. I think. This one was actually going to be a one-shot for 100themes on livejournal, but I thought the ending was too strange and left people going 'huh?' so this will be a multi-chaptered story. Even thought it'sreally short. Yayfor more Tomoyo/Kurogane! -cheers-

He was standing there, only black rags covering his body. In his hand was a sword, covered in red. As red as blood.

The sword clattered to the ground. There it was. The castle. The castle that had seemed so far away, too high, out of reach. The castle in the sky.

His hands clenched, wrinkling the small piece of old paper in his fist. The only thing left of his dead mother. The mother he had never had, had never met, had never talked to.

Would they accept him? Would they let him in, a stray dog and a murderer? How long had he dreamed of the castle in the sky; the only place to free him.

He was walking towards it again, his face filled with determination. Had he finally reached the skies? Had he finally reached the heavens?

"Kuro!"

He whirled around, his eyes widening. A small baby with magnificent purple hair was crawling on the ground, playfully pawing a tuft of soft grass. She turned her amethyst eyes to him, and her playful high-pitched voice echoed through the fields again.

"Kuro!" she said again, pointing to the black rags.

But he was shocked; how had a mere baby managed to crawl up from behind him? He'd always made sure to check his back.

She gave a gurgling noise, still pointing to him. "Kuro, Kuro, Kuro."

His throat tightened. Kuro. It almost sounded like a name. His name.

He reached out for the baby, awkwardly patting the tuft of purple hair. "What's your name?" He asked softly. "I don't have one. Do you?" She didn't answer, clapping her hands happily. "Kuro, Kuro!" she chanted.

"I doubt your name is Kuro." He said, wrinkling his nose. He picked her up, learning the new feeling and taking in the clean smell. "Are you from the castle in the sky?"

"Kuro." She said, pulling his ragged collar. Why did she only say that one word?

He gave her a smile. His first ever smile in his whole life. "Are you naming me?"

She giggled and pointed to him. "Kuro?"

A question. A question asking for permission. Permission for a new name.

Was he supposed to say his name? She was looking expectantly at him, swiping at him like a cat. "Kuro. Kuro." She said, as if demonstrating for him.

Could he say it? Just one word. A word that could become his name. Something he had wished for so long.

"…Kuro." He tested the word, letting the strange new word roll in his mouth.

"Kuro." He wanted to say it more. His name. His own name. "Kuro, Kuro, Kuro!" He yelled happily, tossing her into the air. Her delighted squeals filled the field, his head, his thoughts. She had named him. She had given him a life. A new life.

The two soprano and tenor voice clashed together, only the single word spoken until the end of the day. Until the end of the world.

Yes there will be a next chapter. >.> And of course we will not leave poor Kurogane's name as Kuro. XD
