"The Princess and the Troll"

She was his princess in the tower. He was the troll in the dungeons. Katie was a Gryffindor and adored in her house for playing Quidditch - going to battle against the monsters - as well as her bright, vivacious personality. Marcus was a Slytherin, the king cobra in a nest of vipers.
She was supposed to run from him or fight him, not shiver and sigh when he touched her. He wanted what trolls had always wanted from the pretty princesses. She wasn't supposed to give it to him though. She was supposed to shriek and struggle until a prince came to rescue her. She wasn't supposed to whisper "I love you" in his ear while she was under him.
He didn't let himself believe it. He waited for the prince who'd surely come to challenge him, who'd save the princess from him. As much as he wanted her, he knew the fairytale ending would not be his. The world could not continue to spin if the princess was left in the clutches of the troll. He'd taint her; make her lesser, make her like him if she was left with him.
The prince seemed to have gotten lost on his way to battle Marcus, so Marcus had to get the princess away from himself. It was the hardest thing he ever did. "I've lost interest in you, Bell. Don't bother me anymore." His face was expressionless as he said the words. He'd been taught early how to wear masks, because no one ever wanted to know that trolls had feelings too. A troll in love wasn't tragic, it was pathetic.
"I don't understand. What are you saying, Marcus?" Katie's eyes showed her confusion and hurt clearly. Princesses were perfect, they didn't need to wear masks.
"I'm saying that you were fun, but now I'm ready to move on now. Get lost, little girl. Don't embarrass yourself anymore than you already have by standing there and begging me."
Her eyes filled with tears and she tried to reach for him, "Why are you saying this? I know you love me."
Marcus moved out of her reach and arranged his face into a sneer. "Love you?" he said. He forced himself to laugh. "Don't be silly, Bell. You were a great lay, but now I want to get in a few more girls before I leave Hogwarts."
Princesses in general did not beg, and his pretty princess was a warrior princess. She wiped her eyes and stood straight. "I see, Flint," she said. "It was nice while it lasted. Have a good life." She turned away from him, to head back to her tower. He went back down to the dungeons.
The End
