Lily Evans lifted her head off of the arm of the couch, just coming out of a slumber. Seeing that she was in the cozy Gryffindor Common Room with a warm fire and surrounded by blankets and pillows, she smiled. The stunning red head had fallen asleep during a study session she was having with herself. Wondering to herself who had taken the time to make her this comfortable, she stood up, only to see another figure on the floor beside her. This figure had the most unruly raven hair ever and expressive hazel eyes that contrasted nicely with Lily's bright green ones. James Potter.

Stepping lightly off the couch, careful not to wake him, she could see his steel-rimmed glasses beside him on the common room table and a bit of drool falling from his mouth. Grinning amusedly, she leaned down beside him. Taking a deep breath, she ran her fingers through his already messy hair. Now someone might ask why Lily Evans also known as 'The girl who hated James Potter's guts', would be running her fingers through his hair in the middle of the night. She always had told him that his 'habit' annoyed her, but yet she was doing it? Why? Simple. Lily had seen him do it so many times and she wanted to see what it felt like.

To her surprise, the locks were velvety soft on her fingers and made tiny shivers run through her body. Seeing his steady breathing come through his lips, she suddenly had the urge to touch them to. Reaching her fingers down, she got ready to oblige to her thoughts. Suddenly, her hands stopped moving. Did she just hear a moan, or was she imagining it? She desperately hoped for the latter. But no. There he was, opening those gorgeous eyes of his, which seemed to see right through her. As he sat up and put his glasses on, Lily (who was fiercely blushing) sat back down on the couch.

"Er—did you do all this for me?" she asked, indicating the blankets and pillows which had kept her warm and comfortable.

James blushed slightly but nodded his head.

"Yeah. I couldn't get you up the girl's staircase, and er—I didn't think you'd much appreciate it if you woke up in the boy's dorm." he said, giving her a small smile.

Much to both of their surprise, Lily returned the smile.

"Oh—well, you didn't have to stay down here with me. You could have gone back up..."

James raised his eyes to look at her. "I just didn't want you to be alone."

Lily was slightly taken aback by this, but she smiled again.

"Well...thanks. It was really sweet."

James nodded his head, completely surprised that she had called him sweet. He cleared his throat before a wave of awkward silence fell over them.

Lily suddenly stood up, her face beet red.

"Well, I think I'm going to go to bed now...thanks James." she said, for once not using his surname. She began walking away.

James smiled. "G'night Lily..' He said shocked. Though not as shocked as he was when Lily suddenly turned around, rushed up to him, and gave him a quick kiss, before rushing back up the girls staircase and closing the door.

As he watched the door close James's couldn't help but grin. 'Maybe I do have a chance after all...'
