Chapter 1: Failure

All of Jack's life he had lived in the city. When he was about five, his parents decided to take him out into the country for some fresh air. They stumbled across mineral town, and decided to stay there for a while.

One day, Jack's Parents woke up to find him gone. They frantically hurried around the small town looking for him. Eventually, they found him with a kind old man named Bob. His parents recognized Bob, and they realized that he was actually Jack's Grandfather. Lately, Jack's father had not been doing so well at work and his mother was very sick, and they had been under a lot of stress. Sadly, they had not had too much time to be with Jack, and they wanted to take him on vacation (which is what this is.) Bob was saddened by this story and decided to make an offer.

He offered to let Jack stay with him for three years, so he could spend time with his grandfather, and maybe have some fun. Jack's parents thought this was a good idea, but they thought that Jack was too young to help out on a farm. However, they did promise to let Jack return to the farm when he was older, in order to help the old man. Jack was disappointed but listened to his parents.

Six years later, Jack was finally ready to help out on the farm. His parents took him out to the farm, and dropped him off. They told Jack that they would return to the farm three years later in order to check up on him. Jack nodded, and entered the house. The house in which his grandfather Bob, lied dead.

Jack cried out and rushed out the door to tell his parents, but they had already left. Jack was crushed, now there was no one for him to be with. He had thought that he had gone to the farm to be happier, but in reality, it was quite the opposite. Jack hurried to the other houses asking for a phone. No one had one. He decided to give up and went to sleep in the house.

The next day was the funeral. Bob was buried in the cemetery, and everyone said a few words. After the funeral had ended, a man walked up to Jack. He had a moustache and red hair. His name was Doug. He told Jack that he had a phone that he could use. Jack was eternally grateful and hurried to the inn at which Doug lived and worked. He was greeted by a young girl, just his age, her name was Ann. They quickly went about their own separate ways, and Jack and Doug hurried to the phone. Jack dialed his number. His father picked up. "Hello?" his father said.

"Dad?" Jack answered.

"Yes, what is it son?" his father sounded concerned.

"Dad, Grandpa's dead."

Jack's father was silent. Then he said: "I'm coming to get you"

"No dad! I can take care of myself!"

"That's completely out of the question!"

"No, I know I can run the farm by myself!"

They yelled at each other for about an hour before finally deciding on letting Jack have a trial period of three years. To see how he ran the farm.

And this is when the story begins.
