Miscellaneous Info: First chapter.

Devil Take Me Home

My home was never here,
With Parris and the whites,
I hold Barbados dear,
Devil take me home.

He never liked me none,
With my Barbados ways,
So I guess I'm glad he's gone,
Devil take me home.

Here I am not wanted,
Am a witch, and hurt my Betty.
Witches here are hunted.
Devil take me home.

And maybe God is dead,
For innocents are hanging,
But tomorrow I will have fled,
Devil take me home.

Author's Note: All of these were done for school, but I liked them. Once again, I must acknowledge my English teacher... she rocks. Really. Anyway... if you haven't noticed, Jesus Weeps is a haiku. I don't know what you'd call Broken Promise... free verse? And Devil Take Me Homeis just some random meter/rhyme sceme I made up. Jesus Weeps is about the situation in general, Broken Promise concerns some random "witch,"and Devil Take Me Home is from Tituba's perspective... which was odd, because I didn't want to oversimplify, which would be easy to do--assume she's simple-minded because she can't speak English well. I hope I didn't dumb her down too much, as I like her.

My friend, after reading Broken Promise, told me that I include demons a lot in my poetry. Well, yeah, the last poem I wrote for school did center around that... but anyway! Actually, I don't think I can get around religion when writing. I mean, for a fandom like The Crucible it's really not that obvious, but with others, it is. I include it practically subconsciously. Things I never intended to be religious always turn out that way. This isn't a bad thing at all, I'm a Christian and very happy with it, so I'm not complaining... it's just something I've noticed. Even if there isn't any blatant reference to religion, the things I write tend to be very... spiritual.

Thanks for reading! Reviews are appreciated, but please don't feel pressured. (I like questions... praise is good, too, though --not that my ego needs feeding--)
