"Say Daddy."
"Baf?"
"Say Daddy, Noah."
"Deeeeee"
"C'mon Noah, Da-dee."
"It's of no use Josh, he's going to say Mama first anyway, right baby?"
"Good idea, Donna, start with the basics." He turned towards his son. "Say Dada, Noah, Da-Da."
Noah squealed with delight as his father made a funny face trying to sound out the word.
"Oh, I give up, this is of no use!" Josh threw up his hands, exasperated, but not in anger. Noah's face scrunched up.
"Mama?" Josh and Donna stopped and stared at their son.
"What?" Josh asked.
"Mama!" Noah said, kicking his feet into the air while sitting in his high chair.
"He said Mama! Donna, he said your name!" Josh pulled his wife into a hug and then they both went towards their son. "Say it again Noah!"
"Maaa…" He paused for a second and looked at both his parents. "Ma!"
"Oh, my baby," Donna said as she bent forward to touch his cheek and kiss his soft, curly hair, tears glistening in her eyes. She turned towards her husband. "Josh," she said with emotion and leaned in for a kiss.
"That's my boy," Josh said, grinning after he pulled away. "Earning Daddy a kiss, high five!" Josh raised his hand towards his son, who giggled as he slapped his tiny palm on his father's.
"You don't have to use our son to get a kiss from me."
"I know, but you have to give him credit where credit is due. He is da man."
"Yep, that's right," Donna chuckled as she walked away to get the video camera.
Josh leaned in to whisper to his son after Donna left the room: "Okay now, Noah, let's one up Mama, say Daddy, Da-dee." His son giggled.
"Mama!" This was going to be a long night.
