Birthday gift for Agent Midnight. D

This Time Will Come
by Maaya

When Heero opens the door he already knows who to expect. There is only one person he knows who plays melodies on the door instead of knocking. Also, there is only one person--ever--who cares about visiting him this special day, every year.

Heero's guess is--like always--right.

He finds himself pushed back into his apartment until he hits the phone-table and almost knocks it over. He doesn't complain. His mouth is too busy for that.

Neither of them are usually kissers; this is a special occurrence.

It is just as well.

"My back is aching," Duo grouses as he interrupts their attempt and gingerly stands upright to stretch. The offending body part does some unusually loud 'popping' sounds; intrigued, he rolls his shoulders again. The reward is even more sounds, not as loud as the first ones but impressive nonetheless. Cool. Or not. Duo groans and pats the small of his back. "Leaning down like that isn't good for me."

Heero peers up at him, clearly unimpressed.

"I have grown," he states. Or, well. He takes a moment to ponder before reluctantly admitting, "five millimeters."

Duo rolls his eyes and attempts to look sarcastic. It is ruined thanks to the grin spreading on his face. "Heero, next year you might actually reach my nose."

"That's...encouraging." Heero discreetly measures himself against Duo's body, trying not to appear as if he is. He comes to the conclusion he has --at least-- another inch to go. Until he reaches Duo's nose, that is. Actually topping his partner is a faraway and unrealistic dream ha gave up two years ago when Duo had hit his growth-spurt and risen sky-high.

Duo flops down on the couch in Heero's apartment and kicks his boots off. "But I fear you'll have to face it…you'll always be short."

Heero shrugs.

"Oh." Duo looks up as he remembers. "And happy birthday. I knew there was a reason I was paying you a visit."

Heero watches him make himself comfortable on his furniture before asking, "Do you want anything?" He nods toward the kitchen-corner to imply that he meant drinks.

"Nah, it's okay. I can get it myself."

Despite that, Duo doesn't seem interested in lifting even a finger.

Heero shrugs again and sits down beside Duo, pushing his legs aside with a frown. "Don't take up the whole couch."

Duo grabs the armrest to keep from falling. "That's cold."

They squabble for a while and they kiss a bit more to celebrate the event. Perhaps the kissing leads to other enjoyable activities.

Whatever happens, at least no one can say Heero doesn't enjoy his birthdays.
