Summary: shoulda woulda coulda. Alva's thoughts on the living representation of his failure: his son.

Statue. Cold. Stone. Dead.

"I'd be better off having a statue as my heir."

Alive. Dead. Frozen.

Who knew? No one, that was who.

Alva paused, staring at the statue of his son, reaching out towards him. He had wanted-

He had thought-

He had hoped-

Well, none of those things mattered anymore. Not when his son was in a glass cage frozen in time for all the world to gape at, not when there was living (you sure about that? cause he sure ain't breathing proof of his incompetence, his failure, his negligence.

His fault. Edwin's lifedeathnotthere was his fault.

Edwin was his son. Edwin was his future, his legacy, but more than that he was his son. Alva had a duty to take care of him, and he should have seen-

He should have realized-

shoulda woulda coulda. Didn't mean a single thing in the end, only that Alva had a responsibility he failed.

He hated the taste of failure. Edwin needed him now more than ever, and Alva had to help his son.

He would not fail him again.
