Rei stared at the heater in the corner of the hospital room, the only source of noise. He wanted to be back in the arena but he couldn't, not after the man handling from Boris.
His eyes fell shut again. He had been so close to getting Takao and now, here he was.
The gold eyes slid open as there was a sharp rap on the door. It was Takao, a huge grin on his face as he waved. He cradled an arm full of flowers in one arm and held a single card in the other.
"Here," Takao thrust the flowers into Rei's face with the clumsy grace that was Takao. "These are for you. Get well soon, I guess."
Rei watched Takao closely as he took the flowers and card from Takao, his hand brushing against the other's and a blush creeping up Takao's face.
"You, uh, uh…" Takao scratched his head. "You look good, really."
"You don't need to lie."
"Fine, you look like you got in a fight with an iron and your hair lost the battle."
Takao expected a slap but all he got was a laugh. "That's the last time I ask you."
Takao leaned forward and kissed Rei sweetly. His first kiss, with anyone. "I'll beat Yuriy. I promise."
